It was passed last night in house legislature that the 30% increase could take effect. The bill still needs to make its way through the senate. This isn't just an additional sales tax my friends it is a FLOOR tax. That means the guys I work for would probably have to come up with the neighborhood of $250k to stay in business. This will put many shops out of business the one I'm working at included.

I don't care if you're from PA or not contact the PA state senators and try and talk some sense into them. Throw some stats about sales taxes and the big boys in PA like Holts, CI, and Famous all having plans to move sales to Florida if this tax is passed. There will be thousands of jobs lost if this is allowed to pass.

Now is the time to fight. I happen to like my job, a lot, and I don't want to lose it to the asshole politicians that have somehow been elected to public office in my state.

Call, email, whatever, they need to hear from people. As many as possible, especially those of us in PA.

The bill to reference is HB1531.

This tax hike would most likely hurt the revenue the state is taking in from cigars. I am sure some of the small B&M would go under, and the big cigar companies will just leave the state like you said. Silly politicians.

North Carolina just got their 2nd "floor tax" back on September 1st, but it is only about half of what they are talking about doing to Pa.

Update here.

The state Senate kiboshed the house bill from what I know. I think cigars are off the target list and they're just going after cigarettes for $.25 a pack.

Until next year..........

Yup, next year is his final year in office.
Thank god. I feel sorry for where ever ends up with him next. I just hope to god he doesn't end up somewhere Federal. However that would make total sense. Keep promoting the idiot.

How do you think J. Napalitano got to DHS. She will probably use the USAPATRIOT act to pick up my little jab at her and them raid my house after planting terror supplies or some shit. :hammersma

The sad part is that Obama and Uncle Ed are tight, so I would not be surprised if he doesn't find a job for him. I was just very happy to see the Senate voted down the House's spending plan.

Cigar aficionado Website......... Pennsylvania Escapes Cigar Tax

Pennsylvania cigar lovers may soon have cause to celebrate as lawmakers presented the governor a bill to end the state's 101-day budget impasse that does not include a tax on large cigars.

Previous versions of the budget bill HB1531 had included the state's first-ever cigar tax of 30 percent. Aside from Florida, Pennsylvania is the only state in the union not to tax premium cigars.

The cigar tax, as well as taxes on natural-gas drilling, performance arts and small games of chance, became the focus of a political battle between Democrats, who control the House, and Republicans, who hold a majority in the Senate, that has lasted 101 days.

House Democrats changed course Wednesday, passing a tax code bill with no cigar tax that the Senate Republicans approved yesterday, and now the bill awaits Governor Rendell's signature.

"CRA again commends the actions of the Pennsylvania Senate, which protects the rich family history that the Commonweath has with the premium cigar business," said Glynn Loope, executive director of the Cigar Rights of America. "We certainly hope that Gov. Rendell signs the bill as adopted by the Senate, and that a budget deal without the planned regressive cigar tax can be adopted."

Although premium cigars will not be taxed if the bill becomes law, little cigars were not so lucky. The bill would impose a tax of eight cents per stick.
