Ramon Allones Habana
Thanks to Eric.Ford for the review template and to Kockroach for including this stick in my newbie sampler!
The Technicals
Ramón Allones for Habanos SA, Cuba
Small Club Corona
Length 4 3/8
Ring Gauge- 42
Wrapper/Filler: Cuban
Price- UNK
Appearance
Very light colored wrapper, with several dark spots and veins. The wrapper is just short of rustic. Cigar has a slight box press.
Grade: C
Construction
Foot of the cigar appears very packed and dense, does not give much when squeezed. Nice double cap. I opted to use a punch because of the size and the slight box press; once punched however the draw was extremely tight. I then used a double guillotine to remove the whole top cap. This improved the draw somewhat and didnt affect the shoulder of the cigar. Unfortunately, the draw didn't improve much from there and required several re-lights.
Grade: D
Flavor
The cigar has a very light aroma, dry tobacco and hay. Pre-light draw is snug as previously stated, same light dry hay flavor with a touch of sweetness. Upon lighting, decent amount of smoke for how tight the draw is. Flavor is very mild, dry hay and grass. Finish is short, giving a dry mouth feel. Halfway through, same mild flavors, getting a little black licorice (Anise) flavor on the finish. Stick is very mild, not a powerhouse in any way.
Grade: B
Value
Not available in the states, however this size and the manufacturer seems to be fairly popular from what I can find on the web and should be somewhat easily available; prices vary wildly.
Grade: N/A
Final Thoughts
Very nice, mild stick; I would not hesitate to have this stick again at any time of the day.
Final Grade: C
Poor construction hurt the overall enjoyment from this stick, but with that said, great mild flavor.
