So I'm sitting on my patio, trying to chat (not working) and smoking my first Punch Rare Corojo. The temp's dropping and rain has moved in. I'm trying to discern the flavors and nuances, when about 2/3 in, I taste "well done steak!" It was a fleeting taste, but it was there nonetheless! I took a sip of coffee and let the cigar sit a bit. The cedar and earth returned. But, a few puffs later... Steak! Uncanny at best.

Any similar experiences?

Hmm... You guys ever get checked for brain tumors??? They can cause odd scents and tastes, ya know. Seriously, I've never been lucky enough to get those different flavors like that.

One of the members of my "Home" board, put up a flavor wheel one time. It described the broad catagories of different flavors and then subsects and more narrow components of those classes.

Meaty is definately one of the many flavors that can be present in tobacco, depending on the leaves used. I always think of Nic. tobacco as having a strong leather, woody, tannic and meaty component to it.

That flavor wheel is insane. I never knew there were so many different flavors and notes for cigars!

I reviewed a Brazilian puro (can't recall which one now) on this site, that after letting rest to write notes about it, the fireball dug deep into the filler and the body was exuding an aroma I could only identify as grilled salmon - which, if done right, is a wonderful and meaty aroma!

The first Gran Habano #5 Corojo Rothschild I had tasted like meat and toast ... it was delicious but also very strange, as I'd never tasted meat in a cigar before. Cheaper than a toasted sandwich too :)
