Are most RE and EL cc's overhyped or are they worth the hunt? Any recommendations?

As with any cigar it comes down to personal opinion.

Ive had only limited experience with RE and El's but the ones I've had have never disappointed.

Really, really liked:

LE: Magnum 48, Monte 520
RE: La Escepcion, PL Los Andes, Boli Short Boli

mostly over priced and no better than regular production in general. I think it's Altadis that has mostly done this to the Habanos. a lot of hype and lots of let downs. buy small and save your money. coronas and petite coronas are the way to go. believe me , you will be thanking me. I've been through Habano hype and don't get me wrong there have been good limiteds. Good Luck with it !!!

Halfwheel has had a decent amount of RE and ELs up in the past and it seems like they find 1 out of every 3/4 to be great, while a great many they rate significantly lower than they would a regular release counterpart. It's just one sites opinion, but still. However, the sticks they really like seem to get outstanding rave reviews and ratings that are always 95+. That would make the outstanding releases top 5 cigars of the year and in some cases some of the best cigar releases over multiple years. So it seems like the juice can be worth the squeeze. On the positive side, if you aren't a fan there is no doubt someone else out there would love to have a limited CC.
