Cut and pasted my opinion from another forum I'm on because it fits here too.

I disagree. Politicians and high ranking public officials need and must to be held to a higher standard because of the level of trust the public places in them to represent them. If politicians (or anyone) don't necessarily have to be faithful to their spouses, they shouldn't have gotten married in the first place. The act itself may not have been illegal and some might argue the morals of it as well. However, it was the lie and the attempted cover-up that violated the trust of the people. By not holding him accountable sends a message to those he represents that it's okay to cheat on and deceive your loved ones as long as you don't get caught. As a human, I can't judge him and it'll be up to his wife to forgive him. But as a public servant with the responsibility to represent the public who has entrusted him, he showed that he can not handle that responsibility and is not worthy of that trust. He needs to resign.
