A friend of mine recently got this box of Cohibas. I think something is fishy as the factory code is from 1999 and the date code is from post 2000 and indicate March 2004.

He swears that they came from Cuba but hasn't told me how he got them.

What do you think? I think that they are fakes.

The dotted row shouldn't be miscut at the top of the band.

Thoughts? Could they have been made in Cuba but are not authenticated?

Thanks in advance.

Comparing that to this:
(from the Esplendido thread)

Sure looks fake to me. But I'm also not well versed in this.

Why won't he tell you where he got them? Usually that would be a big indicator. I don't have any Cohiba experience so I can't help here.

Because I think that one of our larger customers gave it to him. He's trying to protect the guy's identity. However I'm 95% positive I know who but would never ask it. Not worth it.

If you look closely at the band where the word...COHIBA is...above it the gold should line up exactly under the last set of white squares ( 3rd row )...in your photo there is a space of black between the 3rd row of white squares and the gold. There is currently software being used to copy cigar bands and while a lot of these are pretty good they always seem to mess up on those little details. Also the Habana,Cuba is a bit too dark.

hologram seal on a 2004 box is wrong. Also are these maduro sticks? more pics needed to see if there is an older seal under the hologram seal and the type.

If so they were re-inspected before shipping. If not..............fakes.

Factory codes change frequently, this one could be ok.Factory codes in 1999 were all letters.

Go to the Habanos SA site and check the serial #,see what it is supposed to be........

In addition to what has already been stated, the "C" is off in Cuba, and the wrapper looks way too dark in the picture. Definitely counterfeit.

Suspicious enough to sacrifice one to see if there is any donkey toe nail clippings in there... There's a lot that doesn't seem to fit on that box. Cubancigarwebsite.com

Regardless of the fake band, the bad box.

The sticks themselves are clearly not Cohiba
