CI has a 10 cigar sampler for $10 (and free shipping) that seems like a pretty reasonable way for me to try a few new sticks:

2 Burka Class Regent Gran Robusto (90 rated)
2 Sosa Robusto
2 5 Vegas Series A Artisan
2 HC Series Maduro Robusto
2 Ramon Bueno Genesis - The Project Robusto

Cannot go too far wrong giving these a try, can I?

The RB Genesis are decent smokes. The rest... no...
im with Derek

if you want some to smoke while cutting the grass then OK, but i wouldn't want to sit around trying to savor the remaining.

Not to be snobby, but i wish i had found MUCH better cgars sooner than i did because i invested too much money into 5 vegas and other cbid sticks i wouldnt even put next to my sticks now:)

I actually dont mind the 5 Vegas Series A. Its 10 bux.. Buy and try one of each. If you dont like, then keep the others around for smoking buddies who dont smoke alot.

I'll have to disagree here - I think this is a smoking deal and am going to go for it myself! Sosa is made by Fuente and is a good medium smoke (though a long rest helps), the Xikar is a really pleasant mild maduro which I really enjoyed, the Genesis is more complex and good stronger smoke, and that's one of the better Gurkhas with a pronounced caramel flavor (though terrible burn issues in the one I had, typical of Gurkha). The 5 Vegas A series is widely held to be one of their best, even with guys who don't normally like the brand. I've never tried it, though.

Where did you see this advertised by the way? Normally these kinds of deals aren't eligible for free shipping, so that makes it a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned (the caveat being that this is one relative noob to another)!

I don't consider good taste snobbish and I would rather spend more for quality, even if it means lighting up a bit fewer smokes. That said, what are a few of your favorites and why?
Certainly, I do not yet have fully developed taste buds as a green newb. However, if I must sample many to find a few I love, I might as well not smoke junk.

Thanks

Jeff

Front page of their Sept. II catalog, or see the "link" in my initial post.

I agree with Dan that you should sign up for the newbie trade. Great way to get some solid variety.

I could literally name eighty sticks I've loved :)

CI is one of those companies with wonderful descriptions. I bought boxes of stuff from them and many, many tester packs like this. If you understand you wont like many of them, you are OK. It would be impossible to put up a ten pack of quality smokes for ten bucks.

I have smoked boxes of Ghurka Class Regents
Tried the Sosa and found it OK
SOme of the 5 Vegas were ok and some aweful
Ramon Bueso - lots of folks liked it but not me.

So for ten bucks you might find a cigar you like, one you think you like and some that you just don't know. I would do it.

Or for $30 or $40

I have had and enjoy the 5 Vegas. Have had one of the Xicar HC. It was a while ago but I know I didn't hate it. The rest I have not tried. I'm tempted to grab this deal for some of my friends who seem to only smoke a cigar when I'm handing them out. One in particular is always trying to snake my Short Stories. :shame:

@frjeff, what are some of your favorite sticks so far? That might help in figuring out if there's stuff in this sampler you'll like.

They have other good samplers on there too 10 sticks 20-40 bucks and so on look at some of the more popular names /brands (do some research ) and see what you can find . I'd buy a cheapie pack like above for 10 bucks then a more expensive one say 40 bucks for a 5er you'll then see the difference in taste , quality etc . smoke the cheapies 1st coz your guaranteed to butcher them either by your cutting or smoking style (I did) and yes sign up to newbie trade Best thing I did. the boys here are great

I'll say this, for ten bucks for ten sticks, it's a damn good deal, at minimum the Buesos are great, the Vegas are good for what they are and the Sosa for a buck? Do it.

And stay here at BOTL.org, you won't regret it, there's no need for other forums once you've stayed here for a bit.

PM me your address and I'll send you some of my favorites for you to sample.

I will say this as it was told to me over and over. Sure there is junk. But always go by "Smoke what you like" if there is a 3 dollar stick you love.. Smoke it.. Dont feel embarrassed. My favorite cigars are Tatuaje, My Father, Padron, La Flor Dominicana and Liga Privada. I also enjoy 5 Vegas, Diesel, Ave Maria, etc.

I say try everything once, you'll weed out what you don't like.
