Is anyone else enjoying the recent Saint Luis Rey's? IMO they are smoking great and one of the better lines out there. They have quicky broken into my favorite top 3 marcas list. First would be Partagas followed by Bolivar. Punch used to be but all the ones I'd liked are now disco'd. I've been enjoying the H. Upmann line as well. But from top to bottem I like the SLR line just a little better. I'll admit the first few SLR's didn't do much for me. They were a 2001 Regio that was okay, but nothing to write home about. Then I heard alot of good things about the Serie A's and got ahold of a fiver of some 2003 A's. They just weren't to my liking but the last one (around 2005) I smoked was good, but not something I would want in my regular rotation. So I stayed away frome the SLR line for a while. Then around 2008 I started hearing all these good things about the legandary 2001 SLR DC's. The flavors that were being mentioned made me drool. So I did a little more re-search and decided to get a box of 2005 SLR PC's. I guess SLR is a unique and acquired taste. No Cuban cigar comes close to having that SLR profile IMO. But anyway these PC's were really good smokes. I instantly bought another box along with some SLR Coronas. This box had some nice dark wrappers and were even better than the first box. The Coronas were okay but needed some age. About 6 months later I gave the Coronas a try and they had came around. A little fuller flavored than the PC but loaded with that great SLR flavor. After that I decided it was time to save up and get a Cab of the 2007 DC's. Now SLR DC's only come in a 50ct cab. So you better like them or your going to be smoking, trading or selling off 40+ cigars that you don't like. When you could have purchased a couple of boxes of something else instead. This was big risk, but I figured it would be worth the reward if they were anything like the 2001 I'd heard about. The first one I tried was only about 8 months old and I really liked it. IMO the SLR DC, is one of the top 3 DC's produced. But after a few months they lost their flavor. So in the mean time I've been burning through the PC's and Coronas like crazy. Then I got to reading how the Regios are smoking and split a box of them.(late 2008) They were one of the best young cigars I've smoked in a long time. But they hit a bland period about 3 months later, so I knew they needed to go to the bottem of the cooler. Then I heard about the Serie A's and how it's rumored to be that they were re-blended? and smoking great!! So I picked up a box of them (2009) they were much more to my liking than the 2003's I sampled. So now I'm a fan of the A's as well. I guess SLR dosen't make a cigar I don't like. I noticed that my A's now need some down time but I just smoked one of those DC's from 2007 and they are back!! Can't wait to see how they develop more with age. So if you haven't gave the recent SLR line a try I would highly recomend you do. They may just make your top 3 list as well.

SLR's are great, under the radar smokes.

As far as CC's go, I think the SLR DC was the best I've had...Just a roller coaster of flavors, and so well made.

Nice that you enjoy them as well :)

I will agree with the 08 Regios. I really liked that stick. Burned through a box fast. Had issues finding more 08. I heard to 07s were horrible.

I didnt like any of the Serie A I have had. Have not had any from the past 2 years maybe I should try them again.

I have nothing nice to say about the dcs I have had. Pencil shavings kept coming to mind. Just blah.

Side note. Mix in a few paragraph breaks. That was really hard to read on my phone.

My feelings are the opposite. Love my 02 SLR As & PCs. 06 & 08 As taste totally different. Much more herbal. I do agree about the 07 DCs. Have a cab from FEB 07 & they are by far the best SLR DCs since the fabled 01s.

The shop favorite is currently the SLR Serie G Maduro #6...early white pepper spice drops off completely and gives way to chocolate malted milkshake...absolutely wonderful smoke!

I have been a fan of the older Series A for many, many years now. The best, IMHO, was the 2001 vintage. I smoked many box codes from that year and finished my last box in 2010. I wish I could find more. The more recent vintages have not had the same appeal. They are not bad, just different. If you like SLR, this marca is generally among the greatest of values in the world of CCs.

Love the SLR Marca. '98 SLR Lonsdales are fantastic. the '99s are good but not as good. I'm smoking a ton of 02 Regios lately as well. I also think that the Pacificos are among the best Regionals produced to date. My opinion of course but I'll stand by it.
