For my birthday, my oldest son and his girlfriend got me a Krups GVX2 burr grinder.

What a POS - doesn't shut off when it's supposed to, or it shuts off mid-way through a grind. Getting the ground coffee out of the hopper is messy.
Any recommendations for an under $100 (preferrably less) burr grinder?

Not to toot my own horn but the Bodum Antigua I carry is a pretty decent grinder at 89.95. I tested one out extensively in my own kitchen and it is still in use by one of the ladies who helps at the markets. Each of the market people have one that they use themselves every morning plus for the coffee they brew for the markets.
I wouldn't recommend it if you're brewing espresso with one of the better machines but for drip, french press and steam toy espresso it's fine.

That being said, I use a Capresso Infinity myself and really like it(I'm too cheap to take another Antigua out of inventory!). It's a couple years old now and still doing well although it could use some new burrs (hit a rock in some Yemen).
I hope to pick up the line but haven't been able to work anything out with them yet.

Hey thanks for the info Brian. I haven't been in the market for a grinder in a couple of years. Didn't know that the Antiqua was still available. I know that Mark Prince always listed that at the top of his list for good entry grinders.

Definitely defer to BlackDog given his overall expertise and experience. IMHO, the Cuisinart burr grinder I have works pretty well...and was pretty inexpensive (around $40).
