Ok, haven't smoked a lot of Habanos, but the Monte #2 sticks out in my mind. I've heard the #4's are great too. How do they compare?

I have a robusto and torpedo Partagas before too and loved them, but can't remember exactly which they were.

Others seem sort of "light" to me and was disappointed. Any other recommendations based on those flavor profiles?

Partagas Robusto is the PSD4
Partagas Torpedo is the PSP2

Get some Diplomaticos 2 and H Upmann 2, both torpedos and great smokes.

Hmmm.......Imo hard to compare them.....Monte 2s is one of the best cigars in regular production, cant say the same thing for Monte 4s......try to get some Diplo 4 instead.
If you like cigars with a little power you will enjoy Partagas 898.
I think you should try the Trinidad Robusto T and Cohiba Robusto to see wich you enjoy more. The trinidad is much more balanced but you might enjoy cigars with some power in it and you will like the Cohiba more then.

Monte #4 can be one of the best, but they make so many quality is quite variable. This is one cigar where I use a higher priced vendor to hand select a box to my specifications, since I don't have the luxury to check them myself prior to buying.

I would look to give the Vegas Robaina line a try. If you like the No.2 then I'd start out with the Unicos. My favorites are the Classicos. Was gifted a Famoso the other night and will report when I get the chance to smoke it.

Branchin' out! Every once in a while, if I come across a choice, I'd like to have my knowledge powder dry and ready to make a good, informed decision!

Can't argue with this at all...smoked both the Trini T and CoRo recently and they're both stellar smokes. The T certainly being more refined, while the CoRo has a subtle strength that is very enjoyable.

I'm early into my cc branching out as well, and while I can't comment on the 898 quite yet, I will be able to soon as some are on the way. :cbig:

Happy hunting!

Are you looking for a cheaper alternative to the #2, or just other smokes that would taste the same?
I guess I'm looking for smokes that you'd recommend based on the fact that I like the Monte #2. Sometimes people give me sticks and tell me "If you love the #2, you'll love this one." but they end up really mild or not very interesting. I chalk it up the the fact that my friends don't smoke as much as I do, and they bring me a Habano and think they're all the same!

If you're branching out, some basic CCs that should be on your list (many have already been mentioned above):

Partagas SD4
Partagas SP2
Cohiba Robusto
Cohiba Siglo VI
Cohiba Siglo IV
Trinidad Robusto T
VR Unicos
VR Famosos
Bolivar Belicosos Finos
Bolivar Royal Coronas
Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2
Ramon Allones Specially Selected

Maybe also try an EL, like the Partagas SD 2010 EL or the Montecristo Grand Edmundo 2010 EL.

I think you cant go wrong with any Cuban, other then the obvious cheap brands like Guantanamo and Quintero.

I've tried numerous vitolas of the following;
Montecristo
Cohiba
Partagas
Bolivar
Hoyo de Monterey
Diplimatico
Romeo y Juilieta
Punch

While every brand seems to have their own flavour, I've yet to strike out when I've bought from the major brands. I have no doubt when I get around to trying Ramon Allones, Upmann, Trinidad, Vegas Robaina, and others that they will be good as well.

I've even had great success with a cheap brand like Por Larranga. Not sure why every Quintero/Guantanamo has been a complete waste, but at any rate I'm done with those brands.

I really don't think you can go wrong with any Cuban. Sure you can get a bad stick, but so far for me they have been few and far between.
