Hey there,

I'm new to this forum, but I've been smoking CC's now for going on 15 years.

I've heard a ton about non-CC's and especially the Nicaraguan smokes. I recently had the pleasure of smoking a San Cristobal Seleccion Del Sol Robusto and it was stunningly good. In fact, (and my die-hard-cuban-fans-though-they-haven't-smoked-jack-shit-else Pakistani friends think this is blasphemous), I would rank that amongst the better cigars that I've smoked. The construction, impeccable. The draw, sublime. Spice, smoothness, flavor... All the things that any good smoke should be.

Of course, later on I found out who Don Pepin Garcia is, and a little bit more about his cigars... Started reading about Tatauje, etc... and started to salivate.

Let me also qualify a little by saying that I have had a few Dominicans also, and was not impressed. A friend was nice enough to send me a Davidoff Millenium Robusto, which was outstanding. Beyond that, I may have tried about 8 or ten, and was not really impressed. They were well-constructed, no doubt, but not my cup 'o tea. But I digress...

... Anyways, at the risk of having an unending thread (locked and archived, as Eric says!), what are your top ten Nic smokes. Remember, let's keep them realistic... something that can relatively easily be found. I'm planning on being in the US towards the end of the month, so I may do some shopping then.

Go! :computer:

So you'll be breaking your tat cherry with one of them blacks tomorrow and that probably will send you into a tat frenzy so don't think you'll want much else after but I would recommend you try some Opus X and LFD's (not Nic I believe but still good smoke). Illusione and Liga Privada for the Nics and I would like to try the Cain's, Vieje's and Diesels so no harm in you trying them for me.

Yummy! These all sound really good... Just the names are sooo...ummm... exotic!

I just remembered:
- I have the Padron '64 Classic (not maduro) sampler at home (how sad when you forget the things you've ordered!)
- I have had the Domi La Aurora Perferido in the colored tubes. Those were excellent.

Is the LFD Airbender similar to that?

Njstone, is the AF in your list Fuente?

Appreciate the input... will put together a final list and post that too.

Daniyal,

Tat cherry! LOL! I WAS looking forward to it... until you put it that way. Now, I'm a little scared. Hope it doesn't hurt too much!

Without a doubt an excellent list!!
You cannot go wrong with Padron for sure but he can be expensive. I would say give the Dominicans another shot because LFD is affordable and I have not had a bad one yet....They are all fantastic!

May I suggest for ye to make a trade? Ye'll get a variety of them so as to sample the most. And I'm sure someone would be interested in the ones ye have (Of course, not an American).

Moro,

I am more than happy to make a trade... Although, recent courier experiences tell me that this is a very dicey proposal at best.

I tried sending a friend one cigar (yup, just one, a 2006 Cohiba Piramides), and they tagged him with a $40 duty. When he said he'd rather just RTS it, they called me up and said that it would cost me about $50 to get it back here... Or we could destroy it.

So frikkin' customs officer is probably blunting my piramides as we speak! :(

Guys, thanks for the list... I'm going to compile it and start figuring out how to get the list complete.

Also, I see Padrons are high on the list. This is good, because I have a sampler of the '64 Naturals simmering in my humi as we speak. Will pull them out in a day or so...

Excited... will certainly post findings.

Ok...

This was a tough one, making a list of things that I MAY like...

However, thanks to Daniyal, I was able to have the Tatuaje Black the other day, and it was a magnificent smoke! The construction, look and feel, pre light, left a little something to be desired, though the shagged foot had its own charm about it.

But the smoke... oh lord, the flavor was just gorgeous.

Tat is getting up there in my list of smokes to try.

If I were to put together a list of initial smokes that I want to try, based on research that I have done solely on user reviews, they would be: (In no particular order)

-
Tatuaje Boris
Tatuaje Verocu
Liga Privada No. 9
Illusiones (Don't know specifics, but from what I've read, their profile is similar to the Tat Black)
Man o War ruination

and then the rest of njstones list.

For Domis, the only ones I really loved were the La Aurora Preferidos in the colored tubes.

I've heard wonderful things about the Opus X, so that's certainly one to try for me.

Based on the above list, how easy or difficult is it to get the sticks mentioned? Let's discount the fact that I'm in Pakistan. And what are the average prices?

Thanks for the help guys. Just a BOTL trying to dig deeper into this wonderful world of tobacco.
