The last 6 LP9 belis from my 2011 box are all cracked at the tip. I've heard about some sort of vegetal glue that can be used to repair them. Anyone with first-hand experience doing this? Is it worth the hassle? Recos on where to get the proper glue? These sticks are just coming into their prime and I don't want to toss them, yet I know from 1st-hand experience cutting the tip in this state will crack them down to the band. The cracks seem to go deep too, otherwise I would not care.

I've used pectin to repair sticks. Just mix a little bit with water to obtain a "glue like" viscosity...apply a thin film on the damaged area...let dry...then they are good to go

+1 on this. I bought some pectin mix from the canning section at W-mart and have used it to repair several sticks. I "paint" it on with a small paint brush that I bought at the craft store. Works like a charm!

I have used "cigar glue" aka pectin to repair mine. Beware, I have noticed that sticks repaired with it tend to be more prone to mold. Only in extreme cases of high rh though

I've been wondering about this as well, so do you just "paint" it on to fix the crack and then smoke right away or do you wait for it to dry? how long does it typically take to dry?

It depends on how thickly you paint it on. I just spread it with my fingertips. It usually dries within 15 minutes.

I've used stuff called Cigar Doctor in the past that worked really well. Was in a small nail polish type bottle and had a brush that you used to apply it with.

Been wondering about this, too.
What about cracks at or under the head. I have a few nice old sticks that have hairline cracks an inch or so past the head. Do I just paint right over the crack or do I need to get under the wrapper some how?

If you cant get under the wrapper don't sweat it. Just make sure the pectin is absorbed at the crack and it should adhere to the filler. If it's to close to the head while your smoking it you will be screwed because it will moisten up and continue to split anyways. Cracks near the head are always a major problem and most of the time you just have to work with what you have. Otherwise using the Pectin on and below the wrapper works just the same as long as you let it dry properly.

I've repaired cigars with a 3 inch split down them with the cut wrapper (head) from other cigars smoked earlier that day. Pectin (from the canning isle?) will work just as good as the 8 dollar bottle at cigar shops. FYi if u get the dry pectin from the store it does not have to be used as a paste but mearly a thick liquid.

One additional recommendation on the pectin from w-Mart.....get the "quick" vesion as opposed to the regular stuff. The regular stuff you need to heat up when you mix it. The quick stuff can just be mixed cold with distilled water.

A pack of this will cost you about $1 vs. $8-10 for the cigar glue

Thanks for the advice brothers. I have a few that I thought would be lost to cracks. I dropped a tupperdor a few months ago an some didn't fare so well.
No catastrophes but it was a close call.
Talk about dread when that thing slipped from my fingers...
I can still feel the fear.

Picked up this little bottle at the local B&M the other day. Probably wont be often that I use it but I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Not that it broke the bank but it wasn't cheap. 5 bucks for that little bottle.

If you still looking for stuff to try let me know and I'll pick you up a bottle.
