How much of a difference does it actually make. I have had fresh and 1 year old opus, and IMO the difference is minimal. Never made it past a year, but from what I am told the Opus need age. Any thoughts?

I don't have much experience but I can tell you from what I've read they are the most talked about cigar when it comes to resting. Some say there is nothing better than a 5 yr old opus. I can't confirm that.... YET!

I've had plenty of fresh ones. I have a few that I'm trying to rest to see if they change at all. I've never had one yet with any significant age on it.

The first time I smoked Opus in 1995 it was amazing right off the shelf...Like smoking apple pie. The past 10 years the blend had been strenthened.. I think the last 4 to 5 years as I have been aging Opus they definitely are smoother and very tasty with 2 to 3 years on them. One year will not be enough time to notice significant change for these LOADED smokes. Find a way to store 6 to 10 sticks per year and go back to them only once a year. After 3 years you will always have some aged Opus to try.

I have a hard time not smoking what I have and that is in direct opposition to ageing so i have a problem.....

That's the same way I feel about the Double Corona's I had from 1996....I personally don't feel like they have been the same cigar since 1995/96.

......the OR's are the holy grail of Opus. Wish I had gotten them when they were in the slide top box. If you want in your face power fresh is good. Aged for 3 plus years really do wonders for them......imho.

Been smoking Opus cigars since the late 90's and have had them fresh off the boat, at 1 year, 2,3,4 and 5 years. Anything from 2 years on are pretty much the same until you hit year 5,,,they are a very smooth cigar after 5 years.

I wish there was a place to buy aged cigars. Maybe its because I smoke too much or just don't have the space for it but I never seem to have a cigar in storage past a year.

ditto ... I just had my first Opus on my recent vacation, and I loved it. People are telling me to age them 5 years ... well, fine, but what am I supposed to smoke until then!! (my other cigars, I suppose, lol).

I beg to differ. I've had probably 12-15 OR Opus and not one of them was nearly as good, (to me) as a 5 year old stick. I've turned down OR Opus since, let someone else have them. Now I love my Opus, I love them right off the truck, with a year and with more, but OR, naw, you can have them.

I had one at 6 years old and I enjoyed the fresh ones better, but with a couple years age was the best.

opus hasn't tasted like opus for quite a few years. I'd pass them off to the cigar fairey and hope for a miracle.

and if by chance you're wondering about the Casa Fuente's... DO NOT AGE THEM. I had one of the original release ones the other night, and it was the blandest thing I've smoked in a long while. Cameroon just doesn't hold up to the test of time.

Good to know. I've had one "settling" for a year. Guess I'll have to dig it out and smoke it soon.
