Okay so maybe my olfactory senses aren't that refined....but has anyone else had the problem of getting a similar smell or taste when retrohaling? I seem to always get a sense of toasted white bread. It isn't bad but I have a feeling that I'm missing...A LOT!!!

Keep at it, everything takes time to refine. When I first started I got slightly burnt popcorn (Sumatra) or holy-crap-my-face-is-going-to-explode (anything else). It didn't help that I thought overly powerful, tastebud pillaging sticks were the only ones acceptable for real cigar smokers to smoke. Give it time, it'll come.

adam speaks true. also, how is your pacing? a smoke running too hot will get to your nasal passages as well as your tongue. i find it helps to A) hold the smoke in the mouth for a moment, allowing it to cool, and B) only try to pass about a half to a third of a draw back out the nostrils, so as to not overwhelm. and, yeah, practice, perfect, etc..,

This is all right. There is also the chance that you are drinking or eating something similar right before hand. I had a bad retro streak for awhile and realized it was because I was drinking sugar free Tea before I smoked.
All great sound advice above, as stated for retro the whole thing, release the majority out.
Something I did for a bit was kind if dilute the smoke a little before the retro by taking in a little fresh air. Believe this also helps cool it just a tiny bit.

Blew my fracking mind Hoshneer. I have been thinking its cause I'm new, but I almost always drink crystal light tea before I smoke. ( I drink glasses of it all day long) then after reading this I decided to not drink any for a few hours before my next stick(a Herrera Esteli) and, I don't know if its all in my head but, I swear I picked up the flavors easier.
