So I managed to last for 30 years without even getting a cavity, but thanks to a crappy previous dentist, today I had my first root canal. So because I didn't have a chance to smoke cigar today, here's a review of the "Root Canal" for the BOTLs.

It was at least a churchill in duration, and sure kept my palate busy the whole time. There were several flavors at play, primarily latex and tooth-dust with hints of several medicinals.

My palate was very dry the entire time, but unfortunately I was unable to pair this experience with anything to drink...a nice bottle of whiskey or two would have been perfect.

The first third was fairly uneventful, and my jaw got kind of cramped from keeping it open so far. Interestingly, my mouth was almost totally numb, something I've never actually experienced.

The 2nd third became more uncomfortable as bits of the inside of my tooth started falling into my mouth--must have been a Cuban-sandwich style Root Canal. I always find that annoying, but am willing to put up with it in cheap cigars if they're still tasty. Not only was this not tasty, but it was NOT cheap!

The final third was awful--I would have loved to have just pitched it. I'm pretty sure my brain was actually punctured at one point. Shortly before this final stage I put in the earphones from my iPhone and tried to escape.

But the worst part about this Root Canal was the finish...headache, mouth pain, and even my nose hurts for some reason. From what I hear, the finish lasts for days--and I don't think mouthwash is going to help (ibuprofen and bourbon might, though).

What's really great is that I get to enjoy a second one in about 2 weeks. I'm hoping that with the little extra age that one might turn out better.

Great review - I've never tried the Rool Canal, I hear it's horrible. I've gone with the milder Filling.

Take it easy while your mouth heals brotha man!

One of the times I went in for a USAF "dentist" to remove a stain just in case it was decay I ended up with four or five fillings. It turned out she was a new resident and was taking pictures of her work as she went along. I think I was nothing more than practice. She was very insistent that I take a needle in the jaw which I refused and said I'd bite her fingers if she tried to stick me. I think she needed practice with that too.

great review!

Loved it...sorry bout the bad experience though. I too hate the dentist, for damn good reasons though.

I was 8 years old and wnet in for a routine cleaning. left with one less tooth that included a huge needle in the gum to numb the area where the tooth was pryed out.

That happened twice!!! by the same quack dentist.

Great review, sorry about the experience though. Next week you should come out here to the lady that did my root canal -- there's a huge aquarium of salt water fish to keep you calm during the root canal. I went to work afterwards with no pain at all.

Yes root canals are terrible! If you ever hear an oral surgeon utter the phrase "gum debridement" head for the hills. See the carnage below. Sorry for the thread jack, i hate the dentist!

I want to say thanks for the very creative and funny "review". I read it last night right before bed and had a good chuckle. It was great lifting of spirits, if only temporary.

Great story Nate!! I had the pleasure of one of those at the age of 16 when I busted my mouth skateboarding on the vert ramp. It was awful, your nose hurts because the nerves they yank out with the mini fish hook goes up in to your sinuses.

Oh yeah, caseabb, I would have swore that pic was photoshopped if I didn't know better, ouchhh!

Nope no photoshop! That was just before the week long hospital stay and the six weeks of continuous IV antibiotics! Infections near your brain are bad.
