BoM January 2010
So I managed to last for 30 years without even getting a cavity, but thanks to a crappy previous dentist, today I had my first root canal. So because I didn't have a chance to smoke cigar today, here's a review of the "Root Canal" for the BOTLs.
It was at least a churchill in duration, and sure kept my palate busy the whole time. There were several flavors at play, primarily latex and tooth-dust with hints of several medicinals.
My palate was very dry the entire time, but unfortunately I was unable to pair this experience with anything to drink...a nice bottle of whiskey or two would have been perfect.
The first third was fairly uneventful, and my jaw got kind of cramped from keeping it open so far. Interestingly, my mouth was almost totally numb, something I've never actually experienced.
The 2nd third became more uncomfortable as bits of the inside of my tooth started falling into my mouth--must have been a Cuban-sandwich style Root Canal. I always find that annoying, but am willing to put up with it in cheap cigars if they're still tasty. Not only was this not tasty, but it was NOT cheap!
The final third was awful--I would have loved to have just pitched it. I'm pretty sure my brain was actually punctured at one point. Shortly before this final stage I put in the earphones from my iPhone and tried to escape.
But the worst part about this Root Canal was the finish...headache, mouth pain, and even my nose hurts for some reason. From what I hear, the finish lasts for days--and I don't think mouthwash is going to help (ibuprofen and bourbon might, though).
What's really great is that I get to enjoy a second one in about 2 weeks. I'm hoping that with the little extra age that one might turn out better.
