Rickie Fowler: Youngster Fowler Learns How to Dress in First Masters Tournament.

"Rickie Fowler discovered that rules carry some weight at Augusta National...As the youngster sat down for his interview in the media center, he was vintage Fowler – meaning he turned his hat around backwards. When he was asked by Augusta National member Ron Townsend to turn it around, Fowler explained that he does it that way so that people can see his face, an explanation that earned him zero credit points with Townsend."

Fowler was asked again, he complied.

I like Rickey Fowler. :stretchgr

As usual, the media grabs onto any little scrap and makes it into a 'controversy'. I'm sure both Rickie and the ANGC member have already forgotten this event, as they have bigger fish to fry for the next few days.

I like him, too. :) Seems fearless and confident.

Just asking a simple question - How difficult would it be to just take the hat OFF?

Common Sense...not so common anymore...

You see MOST of players wearing their hats during interviews, he doesn't deserve any more criticism than the next guy for that. I think this is pretty silly actually, if you follow golf and have ever heard Rickie speak, he is a well spoken and very respectful young man. These guys get paid big money to wear sponsors gear and his wide brimmed hat is no worse then John Daly's or Ian Poulter's pants. Just some crotchety old fart who got offended by fashion.

fashion? fashion? you're killin' me. it may be old fashioned, but augusta has some sense of dignity and respect. it's their house and their rules. why not let your PLAY do the talking instead of wearing crap cause you have a case of the lookatmes!

Show me the rule that says you can't wear a hat backwards please. It's the same stuff he wears and does every week, just like every player out there.

Wearing a hat backwards is NOT fashion. It's a dumba$$ kid trying to look "cool" - just like hd said ""ooooh lookatme!!""

Here's a thought - the BRIM is there to SHADE your eyes.

Duh.

Show me the rule that says
The same rules POSTED in the clubhouse regarding APPROPRIATE attire. You know, the one's that most people adhere to without having to ask ""Show me the rules".

Oh, here's one, from a random Google search -

Club Premises
*Appropriate attire must be worn by members and their guests at all times while on Club property. Examples of unacceptable clothing include, but are not limited to, cut-offs, tank tops, short shorts and t-shirts. Denim garments, of any color, are not permitted anywhere on Club premises.
*Headgear to be worn bill forward; when entering the Clubhouse, all headgear should be removed except in the locker rooms.

why do you need a rule? can't you just be respectful? or is that not "cool" enough for the younger generation? it's one tourney. if he wants to act like a dork the rest of the time, no big deal. yeah, let's see phil or ANY other professional do an interview with their cap backwards!!

All just too big a deal about nothing, I would bet he wasn't trying to do it to "look cool" or be disrespectful. Enjoy the tournament guys.

Dress code is usually: Proper golf attire require. It is left open to interpretation by club management.

The kid complied (after a little lip). That is OK with me. Rickie seems like a great kid. He respects the game and the traditions.

He does get paid to wear the hat and clothing so taking it off may not have been an option.

Yeah, I see both sides, but don't think it's that big of a deal and hardly newsworthy. On a side note, I sure hope this isn't considered proper golf attire, lol
