The fina cigar from the 2011 Habanos Festival I have for review is the upcoming Partags Serie E No. 2. The Serie E cigars have a 54 ring gauge, and this Duke size measures 5 1/2 inches. This cigar has a slight sheen to it, and has a silky smooth feel in the hand. The wrapper has slight veins, and little to no visible seams and a well rounded cap.
Pre-light, the No. 2 has a light spice flavor. Once lit, the first third has a pleasant cinnamon and honey flavor, mixed with a light flavor of wood. The burn isn't perfectly straight, but keeps up well, and produces a light gray ash that browns as it goes.
Moving into the second third of the cigar, the flavor still has a dominate cinnamon flavor but now mixed with toasted wood. The flavor is balanced out by honey and nutmeg in the background. The burn and ash were pretty much the same as the first third.
The final third of the Serie E No. 2 had a charred wood flavor. Mixed within were cinnamon and nutmeg, but the sweet honey flavor has disappeared. Close to the end (basically burning my fingers....but I forgot to take a pic), there was a slightly tangy flavor.
That tangy flavor makes me wonder if this cigar is starting to get sick. It seems that is a common trait of cigars that need some rest (at least from my experience). Overall, I really enjoyed this cigar. It lasted about 90 minutes.
