I've noticed for quite some time now that both of my dogs, mainly the Sheltie, have been rolling around in the grass a lot. Now at my age getting me off of the lounge chair to check anything out would have to involve nothing short of the neighbor sunbathing topless but since the rolling had become such a ritual I had to go see what it was all about.
Turns out that the dogs love to roll around in the spent tobacco leaves of my cigar nubs! I tear them up and throw them around the back yard grass, figure it can't hurt, I mean it's like fertilizer, eh? Here's the remarkable thing, I know nicotine is toxic and used as an insecticide but how do the dogs know? I have to assume that they're rubbing the oils on to their coats to fend off critters!
Amazing how nature has given some creatures instinctive intelligence yet we humans don't know shit until someone teaches us and then half of us still don't get it!
