I have been fortunate to smoke a number of aged RyJ Churchills over the years. When this vitola is "on", I find it to be the benchmark for all other Cubans. There have been some complaints over the last few years regarding quality control, with many of the complaints lodged against this cigar. Such was not the case with several samples from this vintage. The construction of these is as close to perfect as you can get with a hand rolled cigar. The wrappers are a beautiful light brown with an oily sheen, very small veins and a gorgeous triple cap. The draw has been perfect on every sample I have smoked.

The pre-light draw on this Julieta was absolutely flawless. The flavors are rich and smooth on the palate; a full-bodied cigar that is complex and ever changing without being overwhelming. The latest sample produced huge amounts of smoke that were a joy to taste and smell. The slow, steady burn NEVER needed a single touch-up throughout its length. This smoke just screams quality Habano and everything that is great about a Cuban cigar. This is a 90 - 105 minute experience that must be smoked slowly and without distraction to enjoy the subtleties of its outstanding flavor. Never hot or bitter, it has a smooth, strong finish that is outstanding.

These are HIGHLY recommended. With 8 - 10 years of age, this cigar is close to being as good as it gets.

Nice review. I always found the RyJ's a little mild. I'll give this one a try.

I'm still trying to make a box of 98's last as long as possible. When I want a smooth rich smoke that I know will produce lots of smoke with lots of flavor, I go for one of these. The 98's I have, have a very dark wrapper.

Ah... the romeo y julieta churchill...

I stopped buying them , because every time I tried to smoke one something was wrong with it (they were almost always plugged). I got the impression that the churchill had become something of a "table wine" and that it was too obviously massproduced.
I bought a new humidor the other day , and my local cigar dealer gave me a complementary churchill. I tried it and to my surprise it reminded me of the very first churchill I ever smoked - leathery , chocolatey but smooth and with a good draw. I don't think I'll buy one any time soon (I prefer a more fullbodied smoke) , but it was nice to see that the good people in cuba are putting some extra care into the production of this legend again.
