A friend of the wife gifted me a couple of these and I would like to thank her by returning the favor with a couple of NCs. Any recommendations on a NC that has a similar flavor profile?

Judging from the number of suggestions, I'm guessing the overall feeling is that the Cuban flavor profile of this cigar is unique and it would be difficult to find a non-Cuban comparable . I do know that the full bodied Nics I smoke are on the opposite end of the spectrum from what they smoke.

Oy Vey, maybe I'll just cook her a brisket!!

Well, for somewhat Cubanesque profile, but not necessarily Ryj, some options are cabaiguan, La colmena (expensive), and curivari. Lotta different profiles in the Curi lines, but hard to go wrong with the Buenaventura, SP natural and Achilles. El Gran Rey is supposed to be great, but I haven't tried it yet, and the gloria de Leon is pretty good as well.

Agreed. Don't know if I would say quite as Cubanesque, but L'atelier standard lines and Epernay would both be suitable and enjoyable for people who enjoy Cuban profiles.

in my four decades of cigars,I have only found one NC with a Cuban essence, the La Gloria from the late 80s thru the late 90s.

There was a St Luis regios from JR that started out true, only lasted about 1/3..........

Say thank you. A gift is just that and not intended that you reciprocate.
Agreed but her family is in the cigar business in Cuba and she visits every Summer so I'd like to develop a relationship of fair reciprocation. There is also an employee/manager relationship that makes accepting gifts of any largess a bit inappropriate.

If you must, then gift back something meaningful to her other than cigars otherwise it's just a trade.
