Salty Cigars?

I've smoked a few cigars and had them taste....salty? i think thats the best way to describe it. Really salty in my mouth and smell too.

I havent remembered which ones specifically tho.

this normal on some, or preventable?

I once had a cigar taste like salty soup, it was a tat Havana VI. No clue why, I have had numerous since then with no salty taste.

yeah im pretty sure the first one was in a pack of em, and it was the only one.

I've had a few that had some saltiness to them. Different brands, different types of tobacco. Nothing that was overpowering and I didn't hate it. Salt is a mineral and could be what's happening is that the tobacco in those particular cigars just absorbed more from the soil when the plant was growing. Just a theory, can't say for sure :dunno:.

Same here. The randomness of the experience has led me to conclude that it is as much to do with me as it is with the cigar; what I've had to eat or drink lately, how hydrated I am, if I've had anything really salty in last day or so. Could be way off, but I hadn't found any other explanations.

When you do the Kellner tasting class salt is one of the tastes he teaches you to look for in a cigar. In a roundabout way I know Dion G has also discussed the salt balance being important when he creates his cigars (I'm not looking at the article - I'm 90% sure it was him who said the cigar should be balanced so that you neither needed to spit or drink water)

The first cigar I tasted and said "wow, salt" was a Viaje - i still get that in their production cigars and some one offs

Juan Lopez cigars have a salty wrapper to my taste.

I had the same thing happen when I started back. Thought it was the kitty litter I was using, nope. Tried cigars straight from the store, same taste, even ones that had no salt profile. Finally found an article that related it to mild dehydration. Drink water, a good bit, give your palate a day and then try another.

MoW PA and to a lesser extent Ruination are meaty, salty, spicy cigars

I've never noticed it, but now I'll be consciously tasting for salty notes on a few of the sticks mentioned above.

Is it an unpleasant saltiness? I like me some salt.

i've always thought the oliva serie v had a salty taste, not in a bad way seeing as how I love that cigar.

The Camacho Corojo always tasted salty to me. Sort of like Chips and salsa when they are young.

Many of the Cuban Sancho Panzas I have smoked have what I would describe as a salty profile, especially the Belicosos. I enjoy it as a change of pace.
