That's spelled "Tourette" and no, jokes aside, it wasn't.

Not that you'd have any way to know this JC, but I have Tourette Syndrome (mild, fortunately) and that wasn't it.

And don't worry, I won't take offense. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

You learn something new everyday...thanks Jim.

I always thought Tourette's was when people uncontrollably belted out expletives...I guess that isn't all it is.

Anyway, that guy either has serious issues or is a shit-head.

Todd, Tourette Syndrome has several different symptoms. One that is commonly mis-stated is Coprolalia, which is the outbursts you're talking about. That only affects about 2% of all TS people. I coached a boy in hockey (that just graduated from our school last year) that has it and he was always making squeaking noises and jerking his head. It is very hard to deal with on a social level but it's getting better. I hid mine for years and in fact didn't know what it was until our daughter was diagnosed with it at - get this - four years old.

Anyway, I hope I didn't ruffle anyone's feathers, it's just one of those things that hits home when I see it.

Aww, come on guys...from the look on his face, she probably just picked that particular time to tell him she gave away his entire cigar collection and is leaving him for his sister...

I should have known that my spelling was wrong. I searched the web with my spelling and it had many hits so I went with it. I guess it's a commonly mis-spelled word.

Hal I'm sorry to hear that you have Tourette's. My post wasn't meant as a joke but as a guess to what happened in the video clip. It was the first thing that popped into my head when the woman did not flip out when she got slapped. I'm glad you did not take offense to this especially when you did not know it wasn't a joke.

Just to clear this up, are we saying this slapping could not have happened if that guy in the video has Tourette's?

It's highly unlikely this guy is anything but a jerk. Most TS people don't lash out at others when they have an outburst (which by the way is a very small percentage of people with TS), it's more of an involuntary jerk or twitch and I've never seen anyone have that be a source of an intentional hit.
