Those are nasty! Long ago, while flying into Hong Kong we had to use the old
Kai Tak Airport. The first time we came in on runway 31 I thought the pilot was ditching and just did not tell us. If you look at the Wiki link you can see that runway 31 came in over the water. By the time you touched down that water looked too damn close. . .Here are some good
photos of what it was like on windy days. Note how severely some of the planes are crabbing in the crosswinds. One of the 747's looks like it is going to crash. Another is blown completely out of alignment with the runway and has to make a "go around".
I have not flown since 1986, but that is another story. . .
