Hello,
I've been away from cigars for a little while (12 years now) and am looking to slide back into the enjoyment.

Back when I did smoke cigars, I absolutely fell in love with Padron's 1964 Anniversary cigar. It was smooth and creamy! Like smoking cream. But alas, I am now on a fixed budget (being retired) and the shell out $20-25 for a Padron, would be tough.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a comparable budget cigar?

Not sure where you're buying them but I just picked up a pack of 5 Padron 1964 anniversary maduro exclusivo from site sponsor Famous Auction for $41 and I have seen them sell for less. As far as comparables it all depends on your palate but if you want to stay in the Padron family the 2000 runs about $4 on the same site.

If you’re into the more sweet dark cigars of the past and are looking for a deal you might take a look on cigar bid for the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 2nds. They are sold in bundles of 15 and usually go for about $3/stick. They remain my fathers go-to so I pick him up a bundle every few months. Welcome!!

If you have the time and patience, get the 1000 series and put them down for 6-12 months and you will get 85% of the taste of a 1964 at 1/3 the price.
I smoked a Regious Exclusivo Blue Label at my local cigar bar last year, and the consensus was that it was the "poor man's Anniversary 1964" although it was still 2/3 the price of a Padron 64 (probably a few dollars cheaper if you get them online).
