I was woundering what you guys/gals do with your shaggy foot cigars to light them. I don't have much experience with these and the other night couldn't decide if I should give the shag a trim before lighiting it or just flame it. I decided to trim it, but not sure I needed to, what do you do?

If it's not too big, I light it to get a taste of pure wrapper; if it's too big I'll trim it down a bit first...

as long as i'm next to an ashtray i'll light the whole thing. it will sometimes drop a little hot leaf if it's the long shag foot. otherwise, i'll trim just the shaggiest part off and still leave about 1/2 inch of the loose leaf. it really does burn better that way.

OK i hear shaggy foot and I think of a bunch of filler protruding from the foot, past the wrappper, like a Gurkha Shaggy... What I am reading above, I gather you guys are talking about extra wrapper that goes past the filler, like a Tat Black.

Either way I light em, no need to trim.

Correct me if I’m wrong but when you light a shaggy you’re smoking just filler at first and then get to see how the taste changes as you start to burn the wrapper.

I trim the shaggy sh1t off before lighting up. I don't pay much attention to the first few puffs off a cigar. Seems like they always change after a 1/4 inch or so. First few puffs are kind of bland and peppery IMO.

I've only smoked one actually, but I didn't cut it. I enjoyed that pure wrapper for the first few puffs. That was cool, especially for someone like me [read: noob].

When I say shaggy foot I'm actualy talking about a cigar where the end is unfinished with a bunch of filler and wrapper sticking out the end, not the rolled over extra wrapper like on a Tat Black. Sounds like next one I'll just light and see how it goes, I was worried it might mess up the burn, but sounds like not the case.

Thanks all.
