Brothers, Over the last couple of weeks the RH in my CC humi rose from 65 to 67/68, depending on time of day. During this time I smoked a rass, Upmann 2, HUHC. Each of them was off, with the possible exception of the huhc (I haven't smoked enough to be sure). I'm only 2 yrs into the brotherhood. Is it possible that the small increase of rh is responsible for the drop in flavors? Or is it just the variation is sticks? I have smoked a couple boxes of rass and find them to be very reliable from stick to stick. RH is down to 66 and dropping, so we will see this weekend...
What say you?

I think your two year old(or so) boxes may be going thru a muted period. IMO 2 percent should not kill the flavor of a cigar so much that it's off putting. Unless the hygrometer is way off to begin with.

I'm using 2 digital hygrometers and an analog. All are within .5 of each other. How long does the muted period last?

Every brand, individual boxes and even different years production are all different. Will lowering RH help your cigars? Maybe, maybe not. Try dialing them down to say 63-64 over the next month. If it still doesn't help I'd let then rest 6-12 months and try again.
I have a cab of 08' mag 46s. That upon being fresh around (early 09) were decent. Up until this year (10, 11, 12,13) they turned harsh and muddled. Like flavors all over the place and just harsh. This year different story. Much more refined and coming into their own. Hopefully lowering your RH will work..... If not there is always time.

That's really good info. I assume there's no way to tell other than to smoke one every so often?

Slight thread jack, but is it common to segregate CCs and NCs into separate humidors? I was planning on simply using a divider.

Some here do and some don't. I've read that some do CC's at a higher Rh than NC's.
I've heard the opposite. Most cc smoker's that I have talked to keep them between 62 and 65 rh. I keep mine at 65 and they smoke great. The spike in rh that started this thread was an increase up to 67ish, and my cc's did not smoke as well.
