I just purchased a new cone filter for my new drip coffee pot. I had the choice of a big .com or a smaller specialty shop. Prices were the same, I chose the small shop.

Just a reminder to support your small guys whenever possible.

Same here...I always try to use the small.com if they're within range of eachother.

I live in a small town. As such, I visit local retailers for large purchases. If I find cheaper at the larger stores away from town or thru online retailers for the same item, I always go back and talk to the local store before buying. Usually I get a lowered sale price or free freight locally, sometimes they even offer a price match. But if there is too much difference or little willingness to work with me, I walk away knowing I tried.

I'd love to support small, locally invested companies. It's just that usually the price difference is substantial when looking at larger companies...online or not.

This theory varies widely depending on the product though.

Speaking of supporting the little guys, nut bra.

I try to support the little guys, because with out them, we wouldn't be able to enjoy a lot of what we do.

I support the little local guys when the service there is nice and personable. It's especially nice when you become a regular customer and get to know the owners.

For online stuff I always go to big names, unless a little name is well reccomended. Something that has some history backing up it's reputation due to the anonimity of the internet and all that.
