I recently purchased a 15' canoe from a friend and planned on smoking an Opus X in it only to find out I had enough trouble staying out of the water much less keeping the craft stable enough to light. Im planning on getting a kayak soon and was wondering whether anyone has had any experience kayaking and whether it's easy enough to enjoy a smoke in calm water. Are outriggers necessary? Also anything like SUPs (Stand-up Paddleboards).

I've done it before kayaking, but its much better suited during sailing than canoeing.

With that said, one of the things on the top of my to do list is to do SUP Yoga, in jeans, while smoking a cigar....

Depends on the type of kayak your in. We have some Perception Kiwis, Prodigy and sea kayaks that i can smoke in or just about anything else without flipping. Even with kids jumping all over its stable

My whitewater/playboats are made to flip and or spin but once you have it down you can keep them stable of need be.

I've thought about getting involved in sailing but it seems very expensive for a 22yr old lol. That actually brings up a question I can ask. Are there any affordable ways for someone with tight funds to get involved in that activity? Also that sounds awesome lol. SUP is high up on my list of purchases.

Those are some awesome pics!!!!! And thanks for the info. That answers my question. I think when I'm ready to buy I'll look into those. I would love a whitewater kayak in the future but right now I'm focusing on learning the basics. There's a club here that does a lot of classes like rolling drills. It would be awesome to plan a outdoor/whitewater once I actually started going out a bit.

So far as sailing, my undertsanding is there are two classes you're supposed to take to be able to go sailing. Each is a day long for certification and the classes are under $200 per class. Not too expensive. My buddy got his certification and joined a club here in San Diego, $40 a month and we can rent boats for $250/day with the $40 counted against those costs. So take it for what its worth.

Furthermore, our local yacht clubs have summer beer can races where you can volunteer on peoples boats for the races and be part of the crew, learn that way and do it for free...

I fish out of a kayak and smoke a cigar at the same time. Not too hard actually. But I don't recommend the opus. I tend to smoke budget stuff in case I drop it it have to toss it
