I am brand new to this forum but I see many of the same brothers from another forum are here also.
I am fairly new to CC's but have enjoyed several brands over the last year or so such as PSD#4; MC#2;RASS;Choix Supreme; and CORO.
I am looking at trying something different and am leaning towards Mag 46 or Epi #2. Which should I try if i could only try one?

First off welcome to the forums, we're glad to have you aboard.

Now onto your question...Wow, that's tough. Both are great. But I'd have to say Epi #2....and then the Mag....hehehe

Mag 46 and then Epi #2...and welcome.

That is mt personal preference...Mag is about a 75-90 minute smoke and the Epi #2 is about 50-75 minute smoke...both taste very good IMO.

Well, Pulse is right, that is tough. I would have to steer you in a different direction though. ISOMs accel at the Corona and Petite Corona sizes and I would think they would be a good place for you to start. I'm from the world of N/Cs where 52 guages from CAO or Perdomo are common. Down on the "Little Island that Could", the thought that a cigars flavor is most pure around the 42 guage is pretty normal.
I've heard on numerous occasions that this guage is what is rolled when the blenders are coming up with the original recipe for the cigar. It gives a very pure, well rounded impression on the palette that will win you over even if you've never enjoyed smaller cigars before. Plus, another reason I suggest them is for finances. Good Petite Coronas can be found for under $120 where as many of the benchmark Cuban Robustos will run over $160. To me, if you're trying to sample flavors, this can be accomplished with the thinner, cheaper size without sacrificing anything.
Now, the only thing to consider is whether or not the larger cigars blend your looking to try is available in a smaller size. For example PSD4s are a robusto thats blend is not available smaller. Same goes with the Epi2 you listed in your post. No PC available (that I know of anyways, though I haven't sampled all that Hoyo offers) to mimic those flavors.
Keep in mind that each size and vitola has it's own characteristics so just because the profile is available in a smaller/larger size doesn't mean it will be identicle to another cigar in the line. Similiar (enough to give you an impression of what to expect) but not identicle by any stretch of the means.

If you'd like a small sampler of PCs from the aformentioned '...Island that could', PM me, I'll hook you up and throw in a few other things just to get you started down the proper path.

out of the two you have narrowed it down with, I would too go with the magnum 46. both are excellent choices, but epicure no. 2 benefit from a few weeks' nap. whereas the magnum 46 are pretty solid out of the truck.

The Epicure No 2 is my cigar of choice after breakfast with an excellent cup of coffee. I love that combination !
The Upmann stick for me is a fuller-bodied smoking experience and leaves a longer finish (that beautiful Habana twang) that I'm not looking for right after breakfast, but any other time it's a great hit !!!
So if I could only have 1 - it would be the Mag 46.....but the thought of giving up the HdMs is too terrible to contemplate.

If you are new to cubans.. out of the two.. epi #2... if you follow Kurt's advice and go down in ring gauge.. I would also recommend start sipping the cigars less frequently than you perhaps are doing coming from a thicker gauge background... the thinnner the gauge.. the less forgiving it is to overheating.. the slower pace you smoke in and thus not overheating the cigar.. the more flavour nuances are retained..

and over heated cohiba lancero taste like crap and a properly smoked one can be devine..

just my 2 cents of advise that may be totally unneccessary

I hear ya Todd  ...It seemed like only yesterday that we were all still wondering what box to split up and what 5'ers to grab. Now we all have our favorites cigars/vitolas/marcas and know the flavor profiles down to a "T"
