What do you think about us shooting down the falling Satellite later today? Are we going to hit it? They say if we do hit it on the first shot, it will cost $40 MIL, if we miss, the 2nd shot will cost $20 mil.

Money well spent....There are many people out there that would be VERY interested in recovering this equipment should it make to earth without being destroyed......

I heard it was to make sure we don't kill a bunch of people when it lands in a neighborhood in some other country. Your explanation make a more sense.

The price does not surprise me. However this does

"The United States plans to spend up to $60 million to try to destroy the satellite even though there is only a remote possibility the satellite could fall to Earth, survive re-entry and spew toxic gas in a populated area, said James Jeffrey, deputy national security adviser"

My conspiracy theory on this one is that there's something on that satellite they don't want anyone to know about, much less recover when it crashes god only knows where. They say it's a spy satellite, but i think it's some sort of lazer thingy.

My uncle is a physicist for Lockhead Martin and he works on all kinds of research projects to fulfill their contract with the govt. One of the things he told me that he was allowed to tell me was about this lazer that can shoot for 100s of miles and whatever it is aimed at will actually melt. As he said, they could aim it at a gun you were holding 100 miles away and when that lazer beam hit it, it would literally melt in your hands. Like chocolate he said. Scary. But that's the secret shit our gov't has.

So...there's something on that satelitte they don't want anyone to know about. If you think this is the first time a sat. has fallen to earth, your wrong

I just hope they don't shoot Santa in the ass, along with all those deliveries he's been making.

I think it's a little from Column A and a little from Column B, as far as the "keeping it out of bad guys' hands" versus "not poisoning any innocent civilians" goes.

There's a lot of Lockheed Martin types that frequent my store. I've chatted with some. Apparently there is a whole bunch of toxic crap on that thing that would survive re-entry if inside the satellite itself.

I'm sure there's plenty of stuff we don't want anybody to see as well, though. Odds are it'd land in the ocean, I think, and we could probably get to it first.

I really do hope we hit it. Yes, I don't want anybody getting poisoned, and yes, I don't want anybody reverse-engineering the stuff we use to play dirty tricks on others ...

But mainly I want us to hit it because a lot of people are freaking out that we're about to use an earth-based rocket to hit a target in space -- because if we can do that, there's a lot of possibilities open.

Frankly, I hope we vaporize the damn thing.

Then just send out a postcard:

"Dear Kim Il-Jong:

Yeah, we hit it. Call us when you're feeling up to talking.

Love,
--The U.S.A."

Directed Energy Weapons are awesome. I have a hunch we have usable ones right now. I'm thinking you're right and there was some sort of orbital prototype for Space->Space, Space->missle, or even Space->Surface range lasers.
