Saw the new Star Trek movie in IMAX last night and then again tonight in a "regular" theatre. I thought it rocked. And though I am a big Trek fan, I don't think you have to be one to enjoy this movie. Just a great, fun, action-packed flick IMHO.

I'll be seeing it soon. The Wall Street Journal gave it a very favorable review today as well.

Well, it might be my age, or it might be where I was sitting in the IMAX theatre (bottom of the top most section) but the action sequences were SO huge and there were a million things flying around in the frame that I found I needed a lot of lateral head motion to take it all in. And that was a little annoying. In the regular theatre I could take it all in easily. But the color depth & resolution of the image in IMAX is just incredible, so much more so than a conventional projection. And the sound in IMAX - well, 12,000 freaking watts projects the warp boom and every other significant AND insignificant sound into your every pore. I was loving that. Someone I went with said he thought the explosions were too much, to which I responded, "if it's too loud, YOU'RE TOO OLD!" :bouncetau

Saw it yesterday afternoon. W O W  This is a movie for a new generation for sure, and it was great to see how they linked all the cast together through the course of the movie.

5 stars from me.

Saw it as well, I am a purest and have to say it rocked. I dont wanna put any spoilers in here yet but since that one homeworld doesnt exist anymore do I have to burn all my DVDS to make the time continuum catch up to reality?

This movie rocked in every way imaginable. IMHO it's the best Star Trek anything (tv, movie, book, whatever) and that's saying a whole lot.

I mean seriously: it was actually better than WoK

Can't believe I just said that.

I thought the movie was good but hated the cheesy time stratagy for making it work out. why didnt they just have it be a dream instead?

My wife and I took the 16-month old to the drive-in last night to see Star Trek...

Now, I'm a big Star Trek fan (though not really a "Trekie"), and she is just a moderate fan. But we both LOVED this movie! I think she may have liked it even more than me actually! It was a great film all around.

Without any spoilers, I'll say that in my opinion is that this film was true to the spirit and "canon" of the Star Trek universe while at the same time forging new ground. It's not a "prequel" in the strictest sense (how could it be, really, with all the old cast being too old to make a movie of them as youngsters), but nor was it re-visioning of the Star Trek story in the way that Batman Begins was for that franchise. It was something a bit different. Within the confines that this movie was constrained to, I thought the execution of the film itself was outstanding.

Bottom line: great movie! See it whether you're a fan or not.

This movie rocked!!!

Seriously though, the home world thingy is the only thing that threw me. I almost went home and re watched every damn episode I could find just to see if I missed it some how.
