I have landed my almost dream job. I am running EMS as a Nurse in the city of Trenton, NJ. I am looking forward to this. I have always enjoyed emergency medicine and I one day would like to do Flight medicine. This is a good step in that direction. Monday is my first day on the streets. On Tuesday, last I finished all my orientation to the hospital. Do I need a flack jacket?!?!?!?

So awesome man, congrats! I have a good friend who wants to do that exact thing. He started as an EMT, now he's a Paramedic and he's planning to do nursing school soon.

So would you be interested in Flight medicine from the military side or on a Care Flight type heli to your local hospital? My wife is an Air Force doc, not a Flight Surgeon but if she get's deployed to Afghanistan she'd be doing that.

Congrats. I was an EMT in Arizona while in college. Worked searcha and resue. At least you are not rapelling down canyon walls but then I would prefer that to getting shot at.

Congratulations!
I`ve kept my certification current thinking i might get an ER Tech position after retirement. This arthritis is making it look unlikely.
Guess I`ll have to sit around and smoke instead. Poor me:stretchgr

Oh good. I have a hatred for MONOC Paramedics due to the fact that they seem to be the only medic unit up here that leave their rigs idling in the E.R. bays. I mean, we get medics out of Saint Clare's, Atlantic, University, and Robert Wood Johnson, but all of them are courteous enough to turn off their medic rigs. And I'm not even talking about it being Winter time and they need to keep their engines warm, no, we're talking about mid-July and it's 85 degrees outside.

Extra job? Sounds like a pretty full-time occupation to me.

I've never been to Trenton but from what I'd read (long ago) a flak jacket would be a necessity. I hope whatever I read was written by someone out of touch.

Good luck in your job. Be careful, there is a lot of gang violence in Trenton. I am sure you will see your fair share of action. I lived in Trenton 12 years ago in a frat house and it wasn't that bad. The gang violence is a lot worse now. If you are not familiar with the Trenton area, be careful where you travel when you are not working. I work in Bordentown, so I know a lot of people who live in Trenton and the surrounding areas and they don't speak too highly of the area. Good luck.

1st day down on the street. It was a lot of fun. Yeah Trenton is interesting. I am not sure the level of security yet. A few of the Medics wear Bullet proof Jackets. I am trying to watch my back. So far it has not been to bad. We will see.
