So, I'm a newer recruit. I've been talking around and Chaz recommended Don Pepin Garcia Top 25 Sampler. I've ordered it and it should be on its way. I'm curious as to some other recommendations that people may have. As a college student, my budget is a bit thin, but I would like to get a little bit of variety in and thought I'd ask for your opinions on some good sets/singles to start out with.

Thanks,
David

Some great suggestions been made already. I might add that I've done Famous Smoke Shop's Create-A-Sampler a few times and have been pleased with it. I like it because I can get a variety of sticks that I want to try. In other samplers I may not necessarily want to try all of what's included. Just a thought.

that DPG sampler chaz suggested is awesome. Cigarbid has some 90-rated samplers that are great as well at a good price.

the most important thing when starting out is to smoke anything and everything and make notes. Do a little research about each cigar before you smoke it to find out country of origin, type of wrapper, type of tobacco etc. so you know what to look for when making future purchases.

pretty soon you'll know what type of smokes you like and if you hunt around a little and check out the cigar deals thread here you'll be smoking some great sticks without hurting your wallet too much.

oh and get your hand on some padrons.

Henry Clay....Great, inexpensive smoke.
Oily, chewy wrappers, lots of earth and pepper...Don't be fooled by the "ugly" shape of this stick...It is one of the most consistent cigras in production!

Go with the Brevas Finas or the Toro...Awesome.

More importantly.....Welcome to BOTL!!

How's it going Dave,

I actually just started smoking hand rolled cigars myself. So far I have smoked a Drew Estate Java, Acid Kuba Kuba, Don Tomas Candela, Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real, Punch Gran Puro, Oliva Serie V, and the Oliva Serie G. So far my absolute hands down favorites have been the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real, and the Oliva Serie V. The Reserva Real is mild-medium to me and I smoked a churchill without getting green from it, amazing smoke burned even the whole time, even with my lousy lighting skills.

Lots of good suggestions in this thread. Also, take a look at Don Kiki cigars. They're not the top of the line, but from one broke student to another - they are a good budget stick

Ah, another thing. I was surfing round Cigar International and I stumbled upon their Cigar of the Month Club. Pricing seems decent and it looks like a good way to keep a wide variety of cigars coming in. Curious as to whether anybody has tried this and if so, what they thought of it.
