and now we are paying for it on cigarbid.
less chances to bid and get a bargain, more of the freefall auctions.
hate to see the end of the old system.

STG is on a progressive march to buy out all the bigger distributors. It sucks but with the FDA there will be deep pockets to fight with. I hate to see another fall but it is what it is.

Trying to figure out why since they own Cbid and CI already. Sounds like they are just buying customers for a lot of money. On a smaller level I understand the alliances among the cigar makers (access to leaf, factories and distribution) but seems like Thompson is just duplication of a sales outlet. Wonder what their plans are?

Many people hate Thompson, but according to the artical on the buying of Thompson, the company had something worth money, STG was willing to spring for.

Honestly it will just be another company under the SGT umbrella, good, or bad more only time will tell. I am sure the experts at STG have a long range plan to make money from every move they make.

CI is trying to form a monopoly on all online cigar sales.
It’s more about increasing cigars as they have an immense share of pipes ad pipe tobacco makers. From the pipe perspective they are finally doing a pretty decent job considering bulk tobacco and how hard macro blending can be, but there is always room for small batch dealers.

I’m curious to what there next target would be? Perhaps Famous or get a foot on the B&M plus internet by paying a pretty penny for JR, maybe Cigarsdotcom.

It has to concern the small guys either way as they must get some serious buyers discounts which could be used to push smaller retailers under, especially with viscous State laws and taxes in places like CA and NY.

STG has CI that has retail stores, I believe they are opening retail stores in TAX FREE TEXAS. Texas is a big Cigar retail opportunity. JMHO

We have anti trust laws against monopolies.
Antitrust was part of my law practice... this acquisition doesn't violate any of those laws. Too many other vendors for this to be a problem. It simply eliminates any competition between CI (and it's related cos.) and Thompson and increases their ability to raise prices without worrying about being undercut by each other. Also, as another said, STG has to pay for this acquisition (possibly by raising the price of the cigars).

SGT is already a monster with everything they own.

Well this isnt good. I used to love pipesandcigars when i was primarily a pipe smoker, it was like a neighborhood tabacco shop but online with their on blender and great customer service then CI bought it and it went down hill. I have used thompson more than any other site for cigars, I am a platinum rewards member and love earnings points and their promotional emails. They also have great customer service, they have called me on a few occasion just to inform me on order issues and have helped me without any headache. I think now i will just start buying from famous instead.
