Street Glide or Road Glide?

So I'm going to replace my Road King I had to sell a few years back. I figure now's a good time to try to work a deal considering it's winter and not too many people are thinking about bikes except me. Has any brother on here rode both and noticed any significant difference in the fixed shark nose fairing on the Road Glide opposed to the bat wing fairing on the Street Glide. Looking to go with the black denim color on either they both cost the same. Any thoughts or experience with either?

my completely unbiased opinion.... i road a road king for five years before i moved up to the road glide. i've had tons of guys say, isnt' it weird having a fairing that doesn't move? and the answer is hell no! you aren't looking at the f'ing fairing when you're riding.
here's my pluses for the glide.. the fairing, to me seems more stable, especially in the wind because it's not connected to the handlebars. much less tiring. next, it allows the controls to be farther away. i felt like the batnose controls were right up in my face.
there is also some discussion that the bike actually handles better because of it's improved aerodynamics.
and finally, for me, there is NO more common bike on the road today than the street glide. everyone now realizes how nice it is to have a bagger and the streetie is the cheapest way to get there without going full ultra.
my best advice is to try both, but during this time of year that is difficult. this is my third year with my sharknose, and i'll never have anything else!

I own a road king and I'm also in the market to get something else. About a year ago I was really leaning towards the street glide, but after talking to many owners, they made the same point that the Road Glide actually handles better and they wouldn't own anything else. I'm now seriously considering it, but need to test ride them both before making the final decision.

That was my original thought to save money, but I'd end up comparing it to my old RK and it wouldn't add up so rather than trade up again in a few years. Get one of these and hold on to it for a long time.

I snagged a SG when they first came out in '06. Bob makes a lot of good points, but then you have to consider the source. HA! Personally I love the looks and the ride of the SG, and yes, they are very common, but for good reason. Plus half the fun of owning any Harley is to modify, massage, and make it your own. So test ride both and choose whichever one rings your bell.

Street Glide!!! I currently own a 07 FXSTC and do plan on getting the Street Glide for touring when I actually have time in my life to do some real riding. Personally, the Road Glide is not an attractive bike, regardless if it is a better ride. The Street Glide is just a raw, stripped down, good looking bagger. The satin black in that bike is gorgeous, especially when you customize it with black accessories, exhaust, rims, etc. And another thing, no offense to those that own them, but the Road Glide and Ultra's are generally rode by older men. Honestly, when was the last time you saw someone younger than 50 on one of those bikes. :eyepoke::tonguerol

Done deal. I went with the Road Glide with 103ci. They are throwing a Thunder Header, intake and the stage 1 program on it. The stock one I test rode was nice it's gonna scream with the Thunder Header. I'll post pics when I get it. The only difference from the Street Glide is the fairing and the better ride otherwise identical. Got it a little more than $2000 below MSRP. Google Black Denim Road Glide it's the first on that pops up it's in an HD forum but they are good pics.

Congrats. I love my 103. Good low end. The only thing you'll need to check is the windshield height so the wind doesn't catch you at eye level.

I'm 5'7" so hopefully it's not an issue I love the way it looks now, looks like a hot-rod to me. The only thing I'm going to change in the future is the lower fork sliders and cow bells to black.
