Sorry about the newbie question, but what does 5x5 mean when talking about cigar descriptions on-line. Does it mean 5 cigars in a package?

Don't know if this is allowed, but live in Ontario and looking at purchasing cigars on-line from CiagrChief. Their discription calls "Cohiba Singlo I 5x5 5 pack. Does that mean 5 cigar in a package?

Again sorry for the newbie question and didn't mean to break any forum rules.

I've order from JR cigar in the states and the service was great. Is there a Canadian sponsor that does the mail order thing?

Generally, 5x5 means it's a five pack of cigars in a cardboard box, and you get five of the packs.

Most guys will take them out of the cardboard so they don't take on a paper flavor as they age, and some won't buy aged packs for the same reason.

(moved from reviews to habanos forum, better fit)

and, as the guys said, it is a package descriptor. for example, the iconic parti 898 is a 25ct box with rounded sided, so eight sticks fit in the top and bottom rows, and nine in the center. 5x5, it is either a square cab with five rows of five, or most probably (for CC) five pectas of 5 cigars.

Some of the finest cigars I Have smoked have come in cardboard and I have never had a "paper" taste to them, several Davis and one of my all time favorite smokes the '05 Mags that come in cardboard. I tend to trust habanos on how the decide to package their product. Just my two cents, which probably isn't really worth that much :D

I never have either, but my experience is limited, and I know many FOGs who swear cigars age better in spanish cedar than paper.

I think it's commonly understood that when Habanos packages in paper boxes, it's intended to assist in sales of singles and three-packs, not necessarily designed for long term storage.
