Wow, DirecTV is actually LOWERING prices for the Sunday Ticket this year, and by a lot! (that probably means they'll raise prices to $400 next year! LOL)

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-19/directv-lowering-price-of-nfl-sunday-ticket-to-lure-users.html

DirecTV (DTV), trying to broaden its audience, is cutting the price of its Sunday football package by about 40 percent for existing customers and offering it free to new customers for a year.

The largest U.S. satellite-TV provider said today it is dropping the price for the NFL Sunday Ticket package, which gives users access to all regular season National Football League out-of-market broadcasts, to $199.95 from about $325. Customers that also want access to the games on mobile devices will pay $299.95.

Whoa, I love me some Sunday Ticket, but was thinking of not getting it this year, and in fact was considering CXL Directv all together due to price. They just pulled me back in....

Shit. This is good news for you, bad for me. I live in NY and work for TWC. I am a huge Niners fan, and the only way to catch the games, is Sunday Ticket. Last year, my bro-in-law had Sunday Ticket and they didnt have to pay extra for mobile devices. I created an online acct for him, and streamed it through my PS3 at my house, and it didnt affect his. And I didnt have to pay a thing. If I was to purchase it on my PS3 alone last year, I wouldve had to pay 330 bucks. So this year, I will have to decide if I want to pay the extra 100 bucks to him, or just go to a bar. If I am reading the article correctly. Shit, what a bummer, haha.

I got the mobile add-on about mid-way last year and I think I paid another $10 a month for the privilege. I didn't use it very much, so not for me.

Really? You don't think you'll be spending way over $100 to go to a bar??? I'm still coming out ahead spending the full $300+ rather than going to a bar! LOL

I never was Kirk... I was only there once or twice maybe, AFTER my team already played or was on a bye etc. But you're right, going to SJ's is different and exceptions can be made! LOL

Oh, and I was there for the playoffs... cuz my team was on the golf course!?! LOL

Great news, although I will still make my annual call to them to complain about prices and get them to lower my bill for 6 months.
I hear ya. But maybe they finally wised up and realized how much money they were giving back and decided to lower the price substantially and say that's it. Obviously they won't just let customers leave, but I bet it will be a lot harder to negotiate deals this year.

Been a Direct TV customer since August 1998... my first pay check went to buying the equipment and getting NFL ticket... a bit upset that they are giving it away for free to new customers, but not too worried about it.

Still to much, thing i hate is you really can't fully enjoy it due to how the NFL schedules so many games in the morning and have like 3 or 4 afternoon games. Always find myself flipping between 3-4 games in the morning and wind up not watching the afternoon game.

What I'm waiting for is an A la Carte or perhaps team/division package. you know $50 bucks and you'll see all the AFC West games, or pay $5 for any game you want. Think they would make more money this way.

That's a really good idea... I think they would lose a lot of base NFL Ticket folks, meaning I would switch to the NFC East package to save a little or maybe not. A lot of folks just follow their division closely and watch other prime time games. With Fantasy Football, that's changing a little bit.

That said, you may dramatically increase the base viewers and offset that revenue lose easily with al a carte.

Yeah you will get people switching to the lower package which costs you money but it's a lot easier to convince the wife to let you spend $50 for "stupid football" than $200. I write them letter every season maybe one day they'll see the light.

The Fantasy Football guys are switching over to the NFL RedZone package where you just get the scores which is really what matters to the FF guys. Think this is why DirectTV is finally lowering thier prices.
