Came across this great short about surfing in Cuba and how some people are trying to help get it going after being outlawed by the government... With my own love of the ocean and my recent visit to Cuba, this video and the life it shows means a lot. Just too bad there were no waves when this guy visited... would've loved to see him teaching kids and to see the smile on their faces.

Awesome brother thanks for sharing. Never knew surfing was banned there, that's crazy.

Also thanks for sparking the urge to visit the other coast and surf again...

Probably banned because of the proximity to Florida. The dive boat was under permanent armed guard at each of the hotels I have stayed in.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk when it bloody works properly

Yep, the gov't thought they would keep paddling to Florida!?! An article I read in the NY Times quoted some kids that went out surfing I believe after the ban was lifted and they got thrown in jail right away with the cops saying they thought they were trying to get away... :nono:

That's a neat video...I wonder what the implications are for him visiting Cuba...I didn't think US citizens were allowed to visit unless they either were on "official US business" or visiting relatives. I don't understand why we haven't lifted the antiquated embargo on Cuba...it is counter productive at this point. If we want Cuba to come out of the Castro regime era and flourish as a nation, we aren't going to be helping them by continuing to prevent any and all trade with the US. :peace:
