Tar buildup in dryboxed sticks?

So I have these 4yo FFOX PLs resting in their box in my humi at 68RH. I take one out, drybox it for 2 weeks because I'm smoking other stuff, and when I get around to smoking it, it still has tar buildup after 1/2 way through smoking. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I know the FFOXs like lower RH, but I dryboxed the shit out of this and still got a big mouthful of tar.

First of all ....you're not doing anything wrong. Tar buildup in cigars is something that we've all dealt with and do not really understand why it comes to the surface but it does...and you'll know it when you taste it as it is really foul. What a lot of us do is either wipe it off or make another cut to get past the buildup. I do a V Cut for this reason and like it because it keeps that taste from coming into your mouth. I don't let my tongue explore the groove because of the possibility of a tar build up. Some will say that one reason for a cigar to develop tar is that it is being drawn on too much and too long and the heat is the culprit...another reason is that it is assumed that sap left inside the stem of the leaf which doesn’t evaporate during fermentation comes out of the leave with the heat...some have said another reason is that the leaf is too young and rushed to market before it's ready. I pretty much rest all of my cigars for at least 6 months and don't run into this issue as much as I did years ago so there is some credibility to the last reason.

It's either too wet still or a bad cut IMO. I'm going with too short of a cut on a beli type head......

Doesn't dryboxing it for that long make it too dry? Most say dryboxing is a 24-48 hour affair, I've never heard of anyone dryboxing for that long...

Pretty sure it's cause you're smoking Opus and not Liga.

Not far enough down on the scarf of the head which tunnels the tar to the tip.
