Can anyone give me any info on these? I'm referring to the Blacks that are given away with box purchases from NHC. I recently aquired several packs and I smoked one yesterday and it totally kicked my ass. Not in a bad way or anything but I felt that these were alot different than the jar release. They probably aren't and I'm still a noob so any info would be greatly appreciated.

You know Bob that is the kind of BOTL insight I was hoping for. Now I can get back on with my smoking and stop trying to over think my cigars.

The three packs of the Black Robos were given out with box purchases at events. They are incredible! By far my favorite stick.

same cigar but Robusto instead of CG... maybe that's what gets to you.
I'm sure they mellow with time like other cigars.

But the CG's sure taste different to me compared to the Robusto's.
haven't had them in a close enough period to compare, and i don't take notes... I know I've liked both I had... that much I remember!
The only black I did not like, is the Tubo. Good flavor but wont stay lit. only time will tell on that one.

All the Black Robustos were rolled at the same time, about 2 years ago. They are very nice right now, imvho. One of my Top 5 sticks!

Andy,

The ring gauge of the cigar is why you are noticing the diff between it and the original cg.

Someone should do a vertical review of the 4 types, CG, robusto, toro, and tubo... who has them all and doesn't suck at reviewing (like me)?
Hmmm, I like the idea. Dunno if I want to do it just yet. Wouldn't mind letting the tubos and my only toro sit for a bit. Sucked that you're only allowed to get one sampler from CRA.

Is that it? I only had one CG and it was freakin awesome. I enjoyed the robo it just kinda caught me off gaurd I guess. It was also the frist time I smoked in 5 days after having a tooth pulled. I smoke every day usually, and the rest period pussified me a little I guess. Thanks for all the insight guys and this is another reason I love this place so much.

When I first began smoking I was oblivious to the differing profiles the varying ring gauges offered. I liked the robusto size and that was what I smoked primarily.

After joining here and learning more, I expanded to other sizes within the same line and then the fun began. The basic underlying profile is the same but with the smaller ring gauges the wrapper adds a lot more flavor to the profile. As the ring gauge increase, the filler starts to dominate the profile.

So ring gauge does make a difference and can dramatically alter the experience you get from the same line. In the black line the only difference is the size as they were all rolled at the same time with the same crop. The only difference is the size..

Good to know. I never really looked at it that way. Thanks again for the expert tutelage as always. I really need to start paying more attention.
