Starting today cook county is going to be taxing "large" and "small" cigars an additional 25 cents and 5 cents. I am for one saddened that this is going to drive away customers to B&W shops located within cook county. I am one that chooses to not shop or buy any products in cook county due to the 8.250% sales tax. The closest B&M to me happens to just be on the Cook County side of the dividing line... and unfortunately the extra sales tax along with the 25 cents per cigar is a big deterrent. The tax is already scheduled to be going up to 30 cents per “large” cigar in 2013. Frustrated is all I am...

Good thing I live in Du Page County! I don't think Casa will be hurt too much but the smaller shops w/out a lounge might feel the effect.

Hate to hear about cigar taxes going up anywhere. Just be happy you don't have a 68% tobacco tax like we have here in Arkansas.

.25 extra per stick doesnt sound too bad IMHO. Maybe it's because I live in MA???
I mean, anytime I want to order in state, I get this nice little disclaimer:

"ATTENTION MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS: A 30% TOBACCO EXCISE TAX WILL BE ADDED TO THE TOTAL PRICE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS IN YOUR ORDER. THIS WILL NOT SHOW UP IN YOUR SHOPPING CART, AND IS IN ADDITION TO THE 6.25% MASSACHUSETTS SALE TAX. PLEASE DIRECT ANY COMPLAINTS TO YOUR LOCAL STATE REPRESENTATIVES."

Maryland is trying to hike its tax, too. We're sitting ducks as most of the population doesn't care.

It won't deter me from patronizing Casa de Montecristo; however, I am now less likely to patronize any other B&M Shop in Cook County. I live in Cook County, but close to the Lake County border. There are some north suburban shops in Lake County I visit due to the high taxes in Cook County. The only time I make purchases at shops, located in Cook County, are when I visit friends for a herf.
