I've had it once at a bar. I really liked it. My two favorite ryes are knob creek and bulleit if that gives you a little bit of my taste profile. I'm also still very green in the gills when it comes to whiskey. I've been considering buying a bottle of Templeton myself.

Templeton is fantastic whisky! There's no doubt about it. Great flavors and just wonderful. However, in terms of rye, it is pretty mild. It lacks some of the distinct characteristics that rye lovers crave. It lacks that punch of spice and like I said, is quite mellow. BUT..that does not mean it isn't absolutely fantastic. It makes one of the best Manhattans I've ever had.

I've seen it, but haven't tried it before. Have either of you fellas tried R1?
I haven't tried R1 but I'll look for it. I'm still at the bigining stage, like cigars, where I'm trying as many ryes as I can. It's a lot of fun haha but I'm limited to what the bars have around me because I Cant buy a new bottle every time I see one haha. It's a great new hobby.

I have been more of a Bourbon drinker in the past but this sounds interesting

Dave, where did you see the Templeton at? I've been looking to buy a bottle but all I ever find are Knob Creek & Bulleit around here...
I can get it here. Readily available. I would think it shouldn't be too much of a stretch for Minnesota.

Yeah, I thought so too. I haven't been actively seeking it out, I just check for ryes any time I'm in a liquor store. (I had a list of "must try" rye from our chef at our wedding, he said I should have had a bottle in the middle of our dessert table! :D) So, now I always take a peek if I'm in a bottle shop.

Might just have to do that. Then we can both try it!

Templeton is fantastic... I found out it from a friend from Iowa a couple years ago.. He said they couldn't keep it on the shelves and buy it if I ever ran across it. At that time it was only sold in NYC, Iowa, Chicago, and San Fran.. Well last fall I finally saw it and bought a bottle in kansas.. Went home tasted and immediately went back for more and went deep in it... And of course it's been on the shelf ever since!

Great stuff neat.. Lots of stuff can't touch it for the price.
