CI has some great deals on various cigars by Rolando Reyes - Pirate's Gold and Puros Indios to name two of them.

I'm just wondering if it's worth it or not? Both are rated as medium bodied (which is great, in my books).

Are they good cigars?

Or should I save my money for something better to come along?

Here's what I can tell you... The random ass crap on CI/Famous/Thompson is exactly what you'd expect with a few rare exceptions. I imagine somewhere in each of the hundreds of sticks that are sold at $1-$3 (that the mail-ins pay quarters for) is one or two that I might like, however... finding that isn't so fun. "Good deals" at that price range aren't actually any better then a lot of the other stuff, in fact a lot of times they are worse. CI will triple keystone a lot of the crappier stuff, as opposed to the norm of keystoning most. (Although the keystone principle doesn't apply to mail-ins)

As I've shifted to solely B&M purchasing, the rate of running into crappy stuff is a hell of a lot rarer. In addition, it's rarely that it's a bad cigar, rather the blending isn't too my liking. There's only so much you can do with bad tobacco and bad rolling...

I will say that I enjoy the Gran Habano Vintage 2002, which is a $2 CI Exclusive.

If I'm not mistaken Puros Indios uses cardboard not tobacco. I've heard some bad stuff about them. Pirate's gold gets favorable reviews from CI customers on their site, but you can never take their word.

There are plenty of better deals out there.

The Puros Indios Viejo Maduro is not too bad with some age on them. If you're wondering about flavor/strength I would describe that line as mild-medium at most. They're fairly one dimensional in flavor, but if you're looking for a stick you won't feel bad cutting short or giving to someone who just wants something to smoke for the sake of smoking, they fit the bill. They're only like 35 for a cab of 20.

the one puros indios i had (gifted to me) was really good. For the price I would try a fiver if i had the room in the humi.

However, my stock of super-affordables is pretty high right now. I would say, get a fiver and see if you like them.
