I'm not sure if I'm the only one this has happened to...
Every so often I find myself on a kick. In case you don't know what I'm talking about when I say that, it's when there's a cigar that's smoking beautifully and I can't keep my damned hands out the cookie jar.
Well when I'm on a kick, and have a lineup prepared for my next few daily smokes, I've found that it never fails that I run into (planned or not) a friend or acquaintance who also enjoys cigars, and just as I've been brought up to do in this wonderful community, I pass along the best I have with me which is, undoubtably, my lineup gem (aka my aforementioned "kick" cigar).
I've literally gone weeks and longer never having actually smoked the blend of cigar that I dutifully remove from my beloved cache over and over, because I have to make sure everyone is smoking whatever I'm so affixed to. It's maddening lol.
Anyway, short story-long, I've been doing this little dance for some time now on a specific cigar (which I won't mention here because I'm not an idiot ) and I've begun to wonder if I'm alone in this struggle?

I wont get into it- but I wanted to quit dipping and decided to accumulate enough cigars that I could smoke one a day for a week or two to ease the withdrawal.
It seemed that just as soon as I had accumulated a handful, I would end up giving away my go to smokes (as well as some of the ones I hadn't tried) just to be sure everyone who wanted one had one. Not exactly the same as your predicament, but very similar. I bought several cigars more than once before I ever got to try them. I have finally managed to get up to around 25, but that's primarily due to the newbie trade and an online 10 pack.

ID say that's quite similar indeed. I have a blast hanging out with cigar smokers! Best group of people on the planet. That's why I have no problem giving away whatever I have. I just noticed this little trend and found it kind of humorous. It's all worth it though to see someone's face light up at the first few draws and hear them utter the phrase "I gotta get some of these! Damn! "

Yep, that is indeed what makes it fun! My favorite response was "Damn this is smooth, it must be expensive!" to a cigar I paid $3 for.

In that persons defense though- I got a steal on the stick, it should have cost $8ish

Not sure I understand the problem.
Why give them what you like or want rather than try to give something they'll like, and keep your own?
That's just what my wife says. I guess if I really want to analyze it... The more people that start to smoke and enjoy the cigars I like, the more motivation manufacturers have to make cigars in my favorite flavor profiles... If in the mean time I can brighten a friends afternoon by sharing a favorite of mine and turning them towards a blend/manufacturer then everyone wins!
It wasn't my intention to make it seem like there was a problem, just a silly observation that I'd been noticing that I thought it'd be fun to discuss with likeminded gentlemen.
My first cigar I ever had was a gift. It set a tone for me :)

One of my favorite aspects of the cigar hobby is being gleefully willing to share a good, if not great cigar with a brother who may not have experienced a good cigar. I tend to try not to consider myself in the passing. I've occasionally given away great cigars knowing that the person will truly love it and then haven't been able to find it again for myself. I'm never upset though, doing that I'm always happy when they're happy as well...just don't think you're gonna reach for my Davidoffs.
