Well, had my physical last week and got the blood test results back yesterday. A lot of good news except for one area.......Good Cholesterol. The Doc says I should drink a glass of Red Wine everyday to help bring it up. I suppose I'll have to make every attempt to comply with "the Doctor's order". Any suggestions for Red Wine that goes well with a good cigar? :scratchhe :smokingbo

As with Cigars, this will depend on you budget. I love Grgich Hills' Cabernet, but roughly $40 a bottle. After that you can enjoy the fun of trying everything in your price range. If you are looking for a DAILY WORKHORSE and have a Trader Joes nearby, the the old 2 Buck Chuck is doable. This is acctually Charles Shaw and is only $2 a bottle. It is acctually not that bad. They buy excess Grapes from wineries all over and combine them for thier own wines. Here is a link to the Grgich site http://www.grgich.com/index.html

Wow Ray, small world. I just had a cholesterol test here @ work today and I'm in the same boat. Total level is < 200, but HDL amount is a bit low.

I don't really care for red wine (other than port) with cigars. So I'll drink the wine with my dinner and continue to use iced tea, soft drinks and liquor for my cigars.

All things in moderation ....

If you want a little variety I love this blend one from http://www.folieadeux.com/ It is a mix of a Zinfandel, Merlot and a Cabernet Sauvignon. It is called Menage a Trois. Plus it fun to say around the wife. :eyebrow:

Thunderbird. Twice as nice at half the price.

Please don't drink that.

Another issue that I've heard about HDL/LDL is whether you use paper filters for you coffee. (assuming that you drink coffee that is) Some studies have shown that drinking coffee mostly from french press style coffee makers, which I do, will reduce your HDL(good) count an allow the LDL(bad) to increase. Just another tidbit of knowledge that may never have an impact on your life, but it might.

In addition to port and sherry pairing nicely, I've found Shiraz wine pairs nicely with cigars. Nice and fruity. I like the Rosemount, and recently avid toker brought a bottle of Barefoot that was pretty good too.

Glad to hear you are ok Ray!
