the ooze

I was smoking my first Padron (a 1926 Serie figurado) last night and about halfway through I started noticing some oozing tar coming from the cut. I've had this happen before, but was kind of shocked to see it coming from such an expensive cigar.

How do you fight the ooze?

My wife had it happen to her Queen B last night, The worst I've seen has been with Padron, but I've seen it with Oliva V's, Illusion HL, DCM's, in fact, I've only ever seen that happen with decent quality or better sticks. (Never had a cc do that either...)

The tar can be avoided by both smoking slower as well as purging. I suggest the former to appreciate the blend's build-up of flavour. Age helps too.

Natural build up of tars at the cut.

Smoke slower.
Try not to keep the cigar in you mouth as a wet stick will accumulat emore tar than dry.
Re-cut. Slice off an 8th or quarter. You may not have a complete cut and/or an obstruction is causing limited flow of the smoke and accumulating tar.

Same here. I find Padron 1926 one of the easiest cigars out of the box to nub, period, IMHO. Sounds like it was the 80 years as well. Interesting for sure.

Sounds like you guys solved the problem. I've been smoking outside and it's been getting a bit chilly. I was probably toking a little too fast. Thanks for the input!

I seem to get a similar problem every so often...I began noticing it happen when I punch cut larger-ring cigars. Fixed that with different cutter for different gauges

Yep smoke slower fixes it for me.

I usually have that happen when I'm mowing lawn or something when I have cigar in my mouth more than usual. From what I find its from smoking a bit to fast and mainly from slobbering too much. I absolutley hate a sloppy stick, so like a lot of others said, I will cut just enough to clean up the nub. After its cut the draw improves and will have a less harsh taste.
