Since 24 won't run this season, I picked up The Wire season 1. I have been hooked from the first minute. I haven't finished the season yet, but it is set in Baltimore. Basically it is how the police use surveillance and wire taps to try and take down a drug network in the housing projects. It shows from the police end how bureaucracy and interdepartmental fighting can hinder investigations. It also shows from the drug dealers perspective, how they launder the money and set up their networks. It is a gritty, realistic show.

Just wanted to see if their were any other fans of the show.

Omar is one badass dude indeed. This is one of the best shows that has been on TV in a while. David Simon also wrote the Homicide book, which I am reading now. I also went back and watched the first 6 seasons of Homicide while I was waiting for new episodes of The Wire to air, and working on season 7 now.
David Simon worked for The Sun, and they let him spend an entire year with the Homicide detectives when he was working on the book. He also has a book and HBO mini-series called "The Corner" that has some of the same actors in it. It came out before The Wire, and is worth watching too. Its based on the real life story of a family living in the row houses, along with other junkies and dealers.

I just discovered this a few weeks back, and I'm already through season 3. I've got to track down season 4 now, and then I can watch season 5 through my cable company's "On Demand" service.
