Hey guys,

well i got a new cabinet humidor that should arrive as soon as I get back from the Ghan. I need to fill it and i have never tried the big sample deals from online retailers. what is your opinion on getting large sample packs?
was looking at getting the motherlode #14 on cigarint, I have never tried any of the brands they have in there as i have only smoked cubans ie partagas, monte cristo #2 and cohiba siglo II and some H.upmans. had some acid deep dish which i like and kuba kuba and blondie and i didnt like those.

Obviously i am fairly new to cigars but i am hooked, i think i like the stronger cigars but do enjoy the flavored ones as well.

any suggestions or just get the bigger sampler to figure out what i like?

possibly try the newbie sampler thread? great way to get started here, meet a brother or three, get your first trade rating. it sounds like you DO have a collection, but are looking to diversify outwards from your comfort zone, right?

Personally I think you should not waste your money on that sampler. The bulk of it, if not all, is unsmokable junk IMO. Visit the newbie sampler thread and do a cash trade with one of the fine brothers here. You will get your TR started and you can work on getting some more posts in to see the for sale section.

First off, don't be in any rush to fill your cabinet. that will come in time and when it does, you're going to have to find more space. Better to have boxes of what you like than a lot of what you don't. Agree with the others to get on the newbie trade thread, put your likes and the vet's will be able to put together something that you'll like. G1

Yeah agreed every since I joined here and I received some bombs I truly got some great smokes and most of ci motherlode samplers are loaded with crap in my opion I'm still new to this aswell and I thought I needed to fill my humi as fast as possible too but I've learned other wise. I would rather spend 50 bucks on a great fiver than 100 bucks on 40 sticks of crap! One other thing if you like the infused cigars make sure you buy a small desktop to keep them seperate from you other smokes or they will end up tasting like a infused cigar.

Could not possibly agree more! I was in a rush and bought a decent sampler (mostly RP stuff) but in retrospect I could have bought some Liga and been just as happy. There is still so much I want to try but I am trying to pace myself.

+1 on this, I think most are in too much of a hurry to fill up a new humi, I have done it as well and ended up 6 months later with a bunch of stuff I didn't care for.

If you're gonna be around any substantial population center, I'd suggest spending some time at the local B&M(s). Developing a working relationship with a tobacconist that gets to know your tastes can really pay off, if they're any good, and they usually are.

Just be sure to go in with some idea of what you've liked and what kind of smoke (mild, rich, strong, spicy, etc.) you're looking for. With a few exceptions, there are huge variations in flavor profile within the lines offered by cigar companies, so don't identify what you're looking for in terms of brand - that doesn't tell your tobacconist anything other than "I'm a noob".

I 2nd getting hooked up in the NST or trading with fellow brothers. Great was to get exposed to some true gems of premium cigars that have the "BOTL seal of approval" since they came out of another Brothers humidor. We might all have slightly different tastes, but I trust about any brother on here to have good taste in what they like.

+1 to all this, you will save yourself time and lots of money if you just take your time and enjoy all that's out there.

I bought huge samplers online when I was new to cigars. It worked ok for me, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have done the newb samplers threads. Great way to start off.
