Imagine a premium tobacco shop where:

v The word "tobacco" could be deemed illegal and not allowed in retail tobacco shops' names!

v Customers may not be allowed in humidors or to physically handle tobacco products!

v Shop windows may have to be blacked-out!

v Premium cigars may be required to be selected and sold from catalogs with only black and white photos!

v Premium tobacco products may have graphic images of diseases on them!

These are ALL things that HAVE happened in parts of Europe and even closer to home-- in Canada.

The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs to hear from you! The agency is currently asking for the public's opinion and comments to help the agency develop its regulations to police and oversee the U.S. tobacco industry. While cigars and pipe tobacco are not currently included in the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, they may ultimately be brought under FDA regulation.

It's all ready happened and is happening!! They have all ready dictated where you can and can't smoke....even in and on private property!!

Libs.... unless you are calling most republicans "libs"... this is a bipartisan issue.

Nebraska anti-smoking law are pretty harsh right now... I don't think anyone accuses Nebraska as a Blue state.

Strife, yup, most of that is fairly accurate for Canada. I'm sure some of it is from other countries as well.

- Not sure about this one here.

- This is supposed to be the case here. I do know one B&M where they have the door locked so that you can't go in uninvited

- Several of the shops that I've seen up here have had their windows frosted or something to that effect.

- Not here...Yet. Who knows what the gov't will try to enforce next.

- Yup, seen that on boxes and 5ers already.

v Customers may not be allowed in humidors or to physically handle tobacco products!Again this is the law but enforcement is limited

v Shop windows may have to be blacked-out! This is the case here if tobacco is visible from the window's

v Premium cigars may be required to be selected and sold from catalogs with only black and white photos!Not here yet but pretty close as stores that sell items other then tobacco and allow minors in have to have the humidors blacked out. Some store with cabinet style humis will have a list as they prefer not to open and close the humi's so you can decide on a cigar

v Premium tobacco products may have graphic images of diseases on them! All tobacco sold in Canada is forced to carry these Warnings, here is a link to the pics

Guys (and Gals!)- this is a bandwagon we need to jump on. I do not believe the FDA ever wanted control of the tobacco industry, and that presenting a solid voice may actually influence a policy decision here.
