Oh, boy...here we go...and not even on a diving forum (j/k  )
I am, in fact, but I'm willing to bet that I'm not nearly the nazi that you'd expect. The guys I dive with were all GUE trained, and so I took DIR-F (now GUE-F) on a lark. I had a great time and learned a ton. For me, the philosophy works and makes sense and because all the guys around me dive that way, that's what we settled on.
Other folks might make a different choice, which is totally fine. I'm not a zealot and not out to convince that I'm right, they're wrong, and that they'll die diving if their primary is on a hose one inch shorter than 8 feet. Its funny, because I've worked with or taken courses from at least three different GUE instructors (and talked to countless more), and none of them really have that attitude. I think the GUE/DIR tough-guy thing is more of an internet phenomenon than anything else.
Long story short, we should go diving together if you can find your way out to MA.
